Is BF3 as GFX card intensive as we were told

All seems to be working a bit better now, had a couple of crashed but I think it's teething problems getting settings right etc.

Also, anyone got any flying tips for me?

Is getting 40-60 fps at ultra settings really classed as struggling these days? As long as you don't have Deferred AA enabled and you're at 1080P or less a single 5870 is fine.

Honestly can't say I've seen any stuttering, even on 64 player maps.

Just played again, and i get slow downs.

AHAHHA?

not for me it aint

1080p all on high 4x msaa HBAO and MB on! smooth as a babys bum! and looks amazing!

, no worry for me investing in a 580, i can afford it, and you're on high, we're discussing ultra.

For what it's worth, I've got a 3870 along with a Q8200 & 4gb RAM.
Everything turned to minumum & the resolution cranked down and it sits around 30 or so, dropping to 20 in firefights.
Barely playable, and looks like carp too :( (I dunno WTF they were thinking with the blue tint)
Not particularly impressed at present, going back to BF2 until things are patched out a bit.

Well something amazing has happened.

Earlier today my performance was mediocre with medium/low settings, I have now nearly maxed out the game aside from no aa and its as smooth as silk.

Q6600 @ 3.4GHZ
4GB RAM
Ati 4870 512mb

My 4870 soldiers on!

I doubt that very much, my vram is over 1.5gb used. You would never max it with those specs.

id say too high res for them cards and if 1gig vram like mentioned above.

High settings are fine, smooth as I need, Ultra and it bogs down at the moment. Might drop the resolution and see what happens. Seeing the benchmarks on Anandtech it doesn't review Ultra and shows a single card runs high all round no problem at higher resolutions so seems odd.
