Got my Sapp Toxic 6950 from OCUK today, flipped the Bios Switch ---> 6970. :D

Just out of interest who else made the grade --->6970?

Am I missing something, isn't the whole point of the Toxic that its got the 6970 bios on it, its not a crap shoot, they're supposed to work at 6970?

That's kind of like buying a 2600k, enabling HT in the bios and then posting a thread asking if their 2600k's made the grade.

No its only the Toxics that have the Bios switch to 6970 and only the 6950 reference PCB boards that can be flashed to a 6970.

That's not entirely true.

There have been various non-reference cards which have unlocked with a BIOS flash though it may be less common to be able to do this now.

And someone even seems to have unlocked a Sapphire dual fan edition with a flick of the BIOS switch:

I flicked the switch on my dual fan and it unlocked. I did but it ~5 weeks ago though and its far from guaranteed to work.

Take your time, you've only had it about 6 weeks.

would have tested it sooner but had my dad on my back to clear out the cupboard in my pc room so put everything in the garage including the 2nd toxic, then last month had to leave at short notice for 3weeks. Got the pc stuff(old mobo/s, graphics cards, psu) out of the garage now as some one on another forum said they don't recommend keeping electrical items in the garage in winter. I have an old pc sitting in the garage for a few yrs so wonder if it'll work if I was to try running it).

just about to take out the one I'm currently using and put in the 2nd one, will have them both in as soon as I get the i2500k system built(currently wrestling with the ocuk h2flo cooler trying to fit the back plate to the asrock extreme7, once I get that sorted should be a bit more straight forward till I get to installing windows then the drivers).

udate: well swapped over the toxics(i.e. took 1 out put the other one in) and got 1536(i.e unlocked) shaders on the 2nd toxic as well, so I have myself effctive 6970(well the memory is at 1300mhz rather than 1375mhz but that wouldn't effect the fps too much, maybe 1/2fps here or there) xfire once I get it up and running :)

I made the grade.

I switched my newly purchased sapphire toxic card and now it is running as 6970 (unlocked shaders)

Am I missing something? Hardly seems worth the will-it-wont-it risk for £10?

Has anyone had a Toxic which shaders unlocked but that didn't work correctly after?

Flicked the switch on mine this morning but didn't have a chance to fire up a benchmark :) It showed increased shaders though....

I'm intrigued!
