Need a decent rowing machine for everyone in th house including me

I appreciate getting a good one is worth it but could be pricey

Can anyone recommend me one? Or a good brand?

the only rower you should be looking at is the concept 2.

prices start at £1K for the old model and £1.4K for the newest model.

you could maybe try sourcing one second hand.

Psycho Sonny is right, the best is Concept 2 for rowers but they're not cheap by any stretch. If you are willing to get a refurbished one directly from them then it's around £750 but should last a long time. There are other places that sell secondhand models so you should be able to find it a bit cheaper or maybe if there's a gym near you closing down that might be worth a look.

that is also a model C, there is now a model D, E and Dynamic.

if i was going to spend £750 on a refurb model C, i would rather pay the extra £250 and get a brand new model D, tbh.

also if you wanted to, in the future you could buy another and link them so you can race each other if you buy the PM4 models.

PM4 is the screen (system used to track and display everything)

you can also buy sliders so the whole machine moves (but they take up a lot of space). just look through their site, the stuff they do is all good. the options/upgrades are also very good.

Apologies, I did mean to highlight that it was a model C rather than one of the newer ones but fundamentally they should all last pretty much indefinitely if cared for. As for the differences between them, I wouldn't really notice the loss of features as I tend just to use them for basic distance/time rowing although maybe other people would find some of the omissions annoying.

Only get a conecpt 2.

If you want something cheaper then get a nice model C. Not sure on prices these days but about 4 years ago I picked up my Model D for £700 and sold it for nearer £800 :D

ah concept 2

yep I've heard of these things

but that is very pricey I was hoping I would have to not spend more than £500 is the concept 1 any good?

out of a rower and a bike - I would favour the rower because it is more of an overall workout.

btw I'm not too bothered about all of that computer stuff
it comes down to this

* good built quality
* something that will last a while

so like working out how many miles u done etc isn't that important

ebay - type in concept 2 (within 50 miles distance) and buy any one

hope you have a van or access to one.

shista good point

this thing will be pretty big

I've looked on gum tree cheapest is about £600

well if you want the cheapest your going to have to go to ebay, but buying something like this second hand will mean collecting it yourself.

im thinking you would need a mate to help you and a large van, i dont think it would fit in most people carriers either.

you could just join a gym, £600 will get you a couple of years membership, with access to hundreds of equipment, swimming pools, sauna/steam room, etc.

cardio equipment is really expensive if you want decent stuff.

I think all Concept 2s from model C upwards come apart in the middle, so you separate the fan/chain/handle part from the slider. That makes it much more manageable. I managed to move my model D from my parents' to mine in a smart roadster (with the slide poking out of the roof which was down). A few allen keys and you can easily take apart the legs of each component too.

Bear in mind that Concept2 rowers work on air resistance so are quite loud. I had to take this into account when I was shopping for one and in the end I went for a magnetic rower (Tunturi R60 I think the model is). It's light-commercial gear so not quite so robust as full commercial stuff but a lot better than home equipment. When I got it they were reduced from £800 or so to £450.

Concept 2 is great if youve the cash, Ive had the model C and now own the model D.

Both can be easily transported in a regular car, they do indeed split into pieces very easily.

I sold my C on ebay a year after buying it from there, it sold for for nearly the same as I bought it.

You may lucky and find one for 500, but I suggest youll get a better deal nearer Christmas as people seem to sell items for extra cash.

good luck

why do you want one?

can you guys not buy a skipping rope for £5

skipping isn't practical for the old - due to bad knees/joints etc plus it is bloody difficult even I can't skip and that is saying something lol

I would not have minded a rower but maybe it's too big for the place and an exercise bike will be the better option

exercise bikes are a poor substitute in cardio terms though.

its a bit like saying i will walk for an hour instead of running for an hour.

they are however cheap and better than doing nothing. so long as you know the advantages and disadvantages of them so you can make an informed decision.
