Works IT have gone too far!

I just hope no one links him to IP addresses of naughty sites pretending they are something else - and yes Ive never done that to anyone before ;):p

They would block anything remotely interesting anyway dont worry.

Looks like they fixed it already, or the DNS server woke up.

Cheers guys, I can do some work now :D

Kproxy seems to bypass Fortiguard if anyone's interested. Obviously don't use it for sensitive browsing i.e. anything that includes personal details etc.

I have also tried using a WOL on my phone then using a VPN to my home PC.

I really, really worry about the work ethic of many people in the uk

if the man can do his job to a level above what his employers expect of him AND have a cheeky browse of the forum I see no problem.

For example, my job involves spending a fairly large proportion of my time going through support tasks over the phone with people. I've done these hundreds of times before and I can parrot talk my way through the various routines and can have a browse of the forums at the same time. I'm on a call as I write this.

he could be using it for technical support too, some of the knowledge here is 2nd to none.

I mean he isn't using it for technical support, he's using it to look at cat pictures, but he COULD be.

When I posted a while ago about accessing OcUK from work, it got locked saying I couldn't be helped circumvent work policies... go figure.

Just abit of a warning, using VPNs or remote desktop services such as "logmein", at your work place might not be the best of ideas.

We had two employees which decided to remote desktop to their home pcs, to circumvent web logging/blocking.
Their activities were easily identified, and they got the sack pretty sharpish.

Not really tbh, one of the few things I think should be taken as gross misconduct, though I guess that depends on the sensitivity of their roles...

Even if it were to be able to access something minor like personal email from work?

Kproxy is blocked lol, as is logmein.

OcUK isn't blocked though so I'm free to browse, making me a happy and more efficient worker.

Yep, your corporate network is only as strong as your weakest link. I just dont think employees understand the trust and faith implied when given such access. It boils down to pure stupidity to want to circumvent it, especially if its to check personal email as per your example...
