I've never been serious about donating by direct debit to charity, but having 2 young kids I couldn't imagine what I'd do if anything ever happened to them. So i'm proud to say than today i've set up my first ever monthly donations to a couple of charities:cool:

Maybe me posting this will encourage others to do the same :)

I used to donate monthly to Barnados, but cancelled it after 2 years. I'm still not sure which charity I want to regularly support tbh.

I kept getting caught out by the street canvassers on my way home from work through a main pedestrian route through a shopping area.

At one point I was donating over £40 a month to about 6 different charities, but have cut them down to 1 which I believe is Cancer Research.

Some of the canvassers use some fairly sly tactics to get your money, especially in central London, you get absolutely gorgeous girls batting their eyelids and outright flirting just to get you to sign up, though I was donating out of a sense of duty rather than trying to get some action, I promise.

But £40 a month was just too much - that's almost a whole new PC build a year. I'll start donating more again when I'm rich enough to make a genuine difference.

.

We give over 10% of our income to charity. The bulk of that goes to the church, but there's a few others that we have direct debits with. I'd like to give more but I can't afford to right now.

Child's Play is coming up soon - we'll be buying something for that.

Never donate to charity and probably never will.

Scrooge F.T.W. yo

Edit: just to make this post less of a troll: Some of my out-of-work hours career related activity I consider fairly charitable so that's why I haven't sought out a specific charity to donate to.

I give regularly to various charities, and am attempting to raise money and awareness of prostate and testicular cancer via Movember.

I'm giving £40 a month through GAYE but might have to chop that back what with increased costs lately. That's the best part of a full tank of petrol. :/

One of my chosen charities is the RSPCA, and from what I see, they're sitting on a massive pile of cash these days so I reckon I might need it more than them!

Contrary to popular belief, churches are not charities.

I prefer to use the term (tax avoiding scam cults)

This may boggle your mind, but given that they are approved as charities by the charities commission, who I daresay know more about charities than you do, they are in fact charities. Given that none of the "proceeds" are distributed to those with an interest in the church, it's hard to argue that they're not charities.

But you feel free to insult people using terms you apparently don't quite understand.
