So, recently someone apologised for being ironic to me, when in actual fact they were sarcastic - and it got me to thinking, do many people here actually know the difference?

Time for a fun test ..

All of the below statements either show IRONY, SARCASM, NEITHER or BOTH.

Let's see if any of you can score 10 out of 10 -- I'm after the word 'Sarcastic', 'Irony', 'Neither' or 'Both' for each of the below ...

Whoever scores 10/10 gets a prize, and I'm not being sarcastic! Dare you give it a go? :) :)

1) Someone wears a raincoat out on a beautiful sunny day. His mate says 'oh you're really going to need that today mate in this horrible weather'.

2) Someone drives down to the gym, altogether a 2 mile round trip, to go on the running machine. His chosen distance is 2 miles. His mate states 'er, you could have just run down here and back?'

3) Someone writes a huge, long post basically stating how much 'huge, long posts' annoy him on the forum

4) Someone draws a picture of a guy which isn't particularly realistic. Someone else states 'Oh wow that picture is just so realistic it's amazing'

5) A mate smiles and says the sentence 'Well an IPAD hasn't got an app for hanging up a picture, which is what my missus needs me to do this weekend, so it's not really that good is it?'

6) Someone is playing a new PC game and you ask their opinion of it. They answer 'I have no doubt it will get the reviews it deserves'.

7) The Titanic sank on it's first ever voyage. The tickets stated 'unsinkable'.

8) Someone invites you to a 'grammar competition'.

9) Someone puts in a new hearing aid as they're going deaf. They get the setting wrong, and it blasts sound so loud in their ear it makes them completely deaf.

10) Someone states 'This Smartphone is about as much use as a f*rt in a spacesuit'

No, Moses' post ... he wrote it .. then below suggested what HE wrote was ironic. It wasn't - it was sarcastic.
It was a sarcastic comment about your post, it was *ironic* because it was mocking the lack of interest/depth in your post, but obviously contained little interest/depth itself.
You yourself do not understand irony, yet deem yourself suitable to test others on it. Lolbritboy
