Hard Drive Pricing going up at an alarming rate!!!!

...because they want to make a quick buck and some people are silly enough to get involved in panic buying.

There is nothing wrong with retailers charging whatever they want...customers are under no obligation to buy the item (at the inflated price).

It was a Rhetorical question :p

You know I don't whether it is the recent hard drive crisis or my age... But I have come to a point in my life where I am seriously considering deleting my 1tb porn collection.

There is something always at the back of my mind though. What if I lose the internet? How would I cope? Do I really need to get a girlfriend just to satisfy my urges?

My fellow enthusiasts, I AM IN CRISIS.

Hello

More price increase with lines going up £5 or more over the next few days.

Maybe that other online etailor had an major order placed at old pricing?

It was fulfilled, it was already shipped before the floods, and they are keeping the same profit margin?

I don't know how retail works :p

I seriously need a HDD :( like 1.5TB of harddrive....my capacity is in the red on all 6 drives and i cant delete anything as its all important porn (cough cough) i mean work ;)

So, they we are looking at high-ish HD pricing for the next 5 months or so.
Personally, I think things will return back to normal earlier, but lets just wait and see.

I feel sorry for businesses, as in general, they cannot afford to wait 4-5 months to buy new HDs. Personal users, of course, can.

I actually think that this is a good time, for personal users to move to SSD.

Have the current range of Seagate drives not got a bad reputation?
Also, I believe they only have a 2 year warranty.

I'm partial to the Hitachi range of drives as they seem to have a good reputation.

I agree with you here.

Its getting to a point now where by I will be hiding certain lines on the site for systems stock as we cannot afford to not ship systems.

Woo, sorted for storage for a while. Managed to get a 1gb desktop drive from a certain supermarket. For about £44, gutted it and it had a Samsung F2 inside. Quite happy with that, doesn't have the stupid unload click like some green drives too..

Shame about the plants being down for the next few months though :/.

Just did a quick google search for a few drives and got some of those price comparison sites with some places at pretty low prices for 2TB drives (around £50-60) - but when you click on the product link they are actually well over twice that on their current website.

Managed to pick up the last seagate 2TB external drive at old price from local retailer though - so I'm ok for a bit. Probably end up putting it in a decent enclosure shortly once I know everything is ok - as not only supposedly issues with the stock enclosures, but USB only??

Yep... I noticed that. Makes you wonder how often / how these prices get checked! Most sites have been selling at much higher prices for a few days now, so you would have thought this would be reflected in the price search web sites!?

The Samsung F4's dont play ball on WHS V1 They use AFT

The New seagate Greens use AFT but they use Seagate SmartAlign technology allows you to get all the benefits of the new Advanced Format 4K sector standard without any hassle – no utilities, no extra steps.

Been reading up and the new Seagate Greens and they work fine with WHS

They do indeed use 4k but they emulate 512b sector drives. So in theory it shouldn't have been/be a problem.

Samsung F4s on WHS1? I had the same problem, just didn't like my setup and playback always stuttered with BDs.

Went with an Areca 1880 + HP SAS expander in RAID 5 or 6 and no problems since. Glad I bought about 20 F4s at about £50 each earlier in the year :)

**** :( That's the eventual plan as well anyway. Good raid card + expander. Looks like I'll overhaul the drives to the new seagate 3(4?)tb drives as well.
