You guys missed the point I was making, yes, you can change your origin ID, but ONLY if you or someone else doesn't have the name as an EA Persona, the Origin ID has to be unique to any name they have in their database. So you can prevent yourself from having the ingame name that you want, dormant accounts can prevent you from having the ingame name that you want, random people that only ever play Sims 3 can prevent you from having the ingame name that you want. Really Origin ID and EA Persona's should be mutually exclusive, I've got about 7 personas on my account, 5 of which I'll never use again, but may prevent someone from having the name that they want. It's a stupid, stupid system.
For example, my Origin ID is EvilGrin80, I wanted to change it to EvilGrin, but I can't as I had a BC2 soldier and hence an EA Persona called EvilGrin. I decided I wanted to then use my MMO name instead, but I can't use that as that's the name of my SWTOR account.
Here's another example; my brother decided to try out BC2 on my PC before buying the game himself and called his soldier Setty (one of his online handles), he now can't use this on his own origin account as it is linked to my account as a Persona.
I want to play BF3 as EvilGrin, not EvilGrin80, and unless they allow you to choose your soldier name, this won't happen, it's more than a little frustrating. Frankly though, the name I'm stuck with could be worse, but it's still bloody annoying. What's more annoying is the fact that they had the ability to do it in Battlelog, they just decided to take it out...
Also, the issue doesn't just affect those who want a different name currently locked to a persona, it affects those who decide to go back and create a fresh soldier and do all the unlocks again, as you can't. If you want to let your mate/girlfriend/wife/son/daughter have a try of the game, they'll screw with your stats etc. It's bad design, it's unneccesary and it's the first FPS I've ever played where my

Incidentally it's currently the highest ranked post on their feedback forum, so it's obvious this issue is aggravating a lot of people, and thankfully, not just me!

can anyone explain the use of Platoons?
can you join a server as a platoon? when i join a server with other people in my platoon it doesn't team us up or even show them up as different on the server.
is it just an offline collection of players effectively?

Never seen the point of joining one tbh, as i'm pretty sure they don't do anything worthwhile.
Battlefield 3 Crash
I seem to have a problem with Battlefield 3 at the moment. More specifically it's with jets.
Not sure if anyone else has the same issues, but whenever I get into a jet recently the game seems to crash.
Anyone else had this issue? If so how did you fix it?

Pretty much just a way to group a clan together, you get your own platoon page that has your groups stats so you can see whos best in your group of friends. Can post group messages.
About it I think, its nice to see who best in your groups stats so you can brag I guess.

Damn it. I was on the TFU 64 player conquest server, about to make what i estimate was a 600 - 700 m headshot and the server crashed
Hi mate, i've sent you a trust message. Can you remember which map and section it was on when it crashed?
The servers have a que system now so a small wait is all you can expect.
Platoon's are pritty pointless for communities like these tbh.
We have one as a clan The Fallen Unit and only accept members who are actually in and applied for the clan. We can then see who is our best player, jet whore, tank whore etc etc. So with small to medium clans it works great.
However the great use of these platoon’s is yet to be seen tbh!

I had the Java one last night for the first time, prior to that it usually minimises complainging about Windows Aero, which sounds like the colour mode thing you are on about. Pretty annoying, seems to be fairly random when it happens. I don't think I am under specced with 6gig and a 580GTX 1.5gig, memory leak?
Karkand is out in December with no specified release date, take your pick with which edition you choose.
The only good thing about it is getting Karkand for free in December (depending where you buy it from), dog tags and even the free unlocks were pretty useless tbh.
