Some people think it's pefectly legal to run lights on a bike.

As above really, riding two abreast is absolutely fine if done so to make yourself feel safe. In this case, yeah its not on. However, riding side by side whilst actually cycling properly (eg 25mph), then fine.

Now the majority of cyclists cannot do 25mph let alone average it, a fairly good time trialer could average 25mph.

It happens ALL the time, it's terrible. Red lights mean nothing to them, i'm waiting for the day one of them runs into me. It nearly happened to a guy in front of me the other day, it was a green man and the cyclist had to do an emergency stop.

Also on my walk to work there are a lot of one way roads and cyclist are quite often riding on the path at fair speeds. On the quieter roads they just go up the road the wrong way. Lazy fools.

Do they wonder why they have such a bad reputation and a lot of motorists hate their guts? I don't, I always give them space and i would never condone some of the rage that we see on youtube and the news, but they really don't help themselves.

It's simple, they are road users and they should obey the rules.

PS I don't think they should pay road tax, it's clean, it's great exercise and it should be encouraged.

They are road users but the have their own rules!

On the way to taking the wife to work this morning and up ahead a cyclist was weaving in and out of the traffic, cutting across car paths and then, he zooms onto the pavement, narrowly missing a woman with a kid and then goes back onto the road, through a red light and just squeezes past a bus and some parked cars!!!

Is this crazy or not?

You keep saying this!!!! Yet don't provide any evidence.

It's certainly...anecdotal. From someone who has shown himself not to like cyclists..

What also amazes me is the number of cyclists I see that don't have any lights. I see so many of them on my walk to and from the station in the morning and evening.

Have you seen the quality of the majority of "cycle" lanes in this country? I wouldn't drive in them.

That's actually a very good point, I ride a hard-tail Kona mountain bike as a commuter bike, but it means I can ride over any unevenness, sewer grate or bumps in a cycle lane without any worries at all.

Racer and road bikes are simply not cut out to deal with that kind of terrain and they often have to weave out into the vehicle lanes just to avoid punctures or buckled wheels.

Just another reason for my opinion that a hard-tail mountain bike is the ultimate and most versatile form of self propelled transport.

Then the laws needs to be changed. Cyclists should have insurance.

Then write to your MP. Get involved with your local politics.

See post 107!!
Mmmm? Note I said evidence.

I doubt you'll get anything other than total agreement from responsible cyclists that this is nothing short of being both crazy and dangerous.

Maybe it would be a good idea to make a new cycle lane on our roads. Or should i say, under our roads!! They could use the sewers!! lol

forget tax, they should be made to pay insurance. Why is it that if a cyclist smashes into my car its tough for me, but if i smash into a cyclist i get taken to the cleaners ?
How many cyclists have smashed into your car then? Because I've never smashed into a car in my entire 30 years cycling, but I've been hit by two cars in the last year alone. I can't see that stat changing either.

For your information I was sat at a red light over the white line when I was hit from behind the first time and the second time was when a van nailed it away from the lights and didn't see me right in front of him. This is why I put my comment about a huge proportion of drivers being retarded. You wouldn't believe the stupid **** I see on a daily basis. Just when I think I've seen it all along comes something that just blows it completely out the water.

How much wear does the average cyclist put on the road that they should have to pay tax to use it? None at all really. Plus we have to cycle in the gutter and over the majority of pot holes.

Cyclist insurance is a terrible idea for the sole reason that it would be massively abused by scroungers who would start nudging bikes and getting "whiplash".

As for cyclists being dangerous - have you ever tried to cycle in a busy pedestrian area? They love to just walk out in front of you for no reason. Cars love to run lights and are far more dangerous than cyclists.

Here's some fun stats for you:
Number of cyclists who kill pedestrians - on average 0-3 a year, 0 in 2009, 1 in 2008.
500 pedestrians were killed by motorists in 2009, 572 in 2008.
