boiler removal question

just to update
we had the new central heating system and power shower installed
they guy who fitted it all was super helpful.
we spoke to him about the scrapping of all the parts and he advised me to keep it, his company will scrap it themselves and get the money tax free.
he just advised us to call the HQ and just tell them, so after another 4 promises of them calling me back my wife eventually got hold of a manager there. she ( the manager ) insised that the scrap was theirs to take and it was included in the price, to which my wife advised her that their quote and t and c's in no way state anything about removal or parts and the price being discounted. she didnt know what to say, the wife also told her she needs to make it clear if this was the case as its not clear at all.
The manager was not happy with the wifes advise and insisted she was to hand over the scrap. Again she said their will be no hand over to which the manager told us we will be billed for £65, so again my wife asked her to show her were in the t and c's it says anything about a £65 charge, to which the manager put the phone down on her ! lol

we told the fitter and he said, this is happening all the time, people are getting wise and the company have no right to take the stuff what so ever, and IF they did send the bill to ignore it as they dont have a leg to stand on.

Anyway, I took a load of pipe, boiler, tank, and got £88 for it all.

There is a small scrap metal merchants near where I live.
There is often a hot water tank outside with £40 for one of these written on it

You regularly see works plumbers vans pullup outside and drop one off, I suspect to help keep wages down some firms are allowing this to go on to help keep workers happy. I mean an extra £40 in cash, tax free most weeks isnt to be sneezed at.

yeah, but they guy who done all my work said he gets none of it, the company does.
the workers used too, but that all stopped

Yeah Im not debating who gets it in this case, Im just saying that these things are worth some simple easy cash so I am sure they will try to get away with it. A heap of pipe or other metals are a lot more work than just a tank on its own, its a 5 min job for £40 in cash.
As you say the items remain your property, the fact that they may have assumed that you would be happy to let them take it away or they have falsely given you a credit for scrap sales (yeah right!) is an oversight and error on their part.
If your contract stated that you were paying or receiving a credit for scrap removal then they have a case.
