To all the guys running servers:

How's the R8 patch for you?
Any lag issues, especially with larger servers?
Who's your RSP?
What's the server spec, if you know it.
 
I am still using R7 as im with multiplay and they are holding back R8 due to problems apparently.

No lag at all, on a 32man.

RSP? I guess that's the server host, that'll be Multiplay.

No idea on the server spec.
 
I think our servers are R8, defrag and Jam0r will know for sure. Don't seem to have any problems. They're with KillerCreation.
 
Does anyone know how BF3 saves its settings. ie. graphics, keybinds,etc.

For example I have two PC's I can play on (obviously not at the same time)

Can I have different graphic settings and keybinds on different PC's but using the same account?

Yeah i've heard similar from other mates with different hosts.

Due to reports of increased crashes with BF3 server R8, we will be maintaining version R7 over the weekend. DICE is currently investigating the issues of increased crashes.

Bit of analysis of the trailer. They are showcasing playing the maps in conquest mode.

Freeze at 0:56 and you can see gulf of Oman.

There are 7 capture points, and the mini map clearly shows a row of 4 capture points on the beach, and a further 3 behind. So the full 64 player Gulf of Oman

Freezeframe at 0:40 and we can see Strike At Karkand

This also has 7 capture points, and appears to be somewhere in-between the 32 player and 64 player version of the BF2 map. The 32 player version had 1 capture point the other side of the river at the factory. This appears to have 2. The 64 player version had 4 capture points over the river, and very few servers actually played this version, most opting for the 32 player one. So i think this is a nice compromise between the two.

Freeze frame at 0:26 and we can see Wake. With 5 capture points, so exactly the same as in the BF1942 and BF1943 version i suspect.

Freeze frame at 1:16 we can see Sharqui peninsula. Interesting thing is here we can clearly see capture points A,B,C,D,E,F & G

The 64 player version of Sharqui only ever had 6 capture points. So they've added an extra one by the look of it, same as with Strike at Karkand 32 player.

Seems like I might be speding most of my time on the bf2 maps when they come out then. Really don't see why they couldn't have designed the bf3 maps the same, with more cap points, spread further apart, if they can do it for the add on.

You could easily walk between the 7 control points on Oman without issue.
 
But there's more of them. With more points spread across the map, the action will spread out across it, rather than just being concentrated in one area, with nothing going on around it. Except karkand, I expect everyone to stay at the first spamming explosives.

Dice claimed a while back that the flag placement was as a result of feedback from around the time of BF2142, not sure of where the exact post is this is said but its been mentioned more than once.

Does seem a bit of a waste though, the maps are big in scale but for actual combat scale the only things that can make use of the boundaries are the aircraft.

Id like a remake of El Alamein to make its way to this game, Dice have a stiffy for reimagining Wake island constantly, but for tank battles El Alamein was brilliant

How long should it be taking me to progress through ranks? Ive played the game probably for about 5-10hrs online and Ive just made 3rd rank.

Whats the best way to get weapons and stuff, im not familiar with games with progression like this, im an old school CS player at heart.
 
The only one that has more is Sharqui

Karkand is just half 64 player and half 32 player.

I meant compared to bf3. Most flags is 5.

It's been a long time since I played bf2, maybe it wasn't the distance between each flag, just there placement. But the battles always seem to spread out (assuming balanced teams) across the map.

Bf3 they always seem to get confined to one area, either due to choke points, or because the flags seem clustered, so everyone just stays in one area.
