Hi

It appears my M225 just quit on me exactly 2 years since i bought it

I had a 5 year warranty so it will be RMAd but this can take time

Is the M4 the best replacement if i was to purchase now?? or are some of the this week only ones better

128gb minimum required, thought id ask as im looking for a quick turn around and don't have time to research

Thanks

Eek! Spooky, my M225 128GB died today as well :(

Mine was 2 in Septmber - gone with a Corsair Force Series 3 v2

Are you RMAing to the etailer or Crucial?

I have managed to get it going again after clearing partitions and starting again
It wasn't for reinstalling after just a format so i think the MBR, table or something else had corrupt

And I couldn't recover any data when I put it in my second PC it would just hang

Ill keep it just now, i haven't really lost anything as all my data is on other drives, its just worrying it failed without any warning

I would have RMAd to crucial direct

Mine started off with windows losing dll files and random corruption on boot.

SFC /SCANNOW resolved some issues temporarily but chkdsk showed faults and corrupt sectors on the SSD

This got progressively worse and I've tested the GPUs (hours of Furmark) and RAM (hours and hours of Memtest) without the slightest fault

Windows finally refused to boot yesterday so I bit the bullet and took the SSD out and wiped and fully scanned / fixed on another PC, back in my main rig and reinstalled windows - everything was fine and then boot errors started yetserday evening and eventually, now, the PC won't even recognise the SSD as being connected in BIOS.

I've put the SSD back in the second PC and that now won't see the SSD in windows, dos or bios - the drive lights up, I've tried different power and SATA cables on both PCs, but nothing!

Ive given it up as dead and waiting for Crucial to open tomorrow to arrange an RMA

This is how they usually go, if you are lucky Crucial will send you an M4 as a replacement :)

Pretty much what i did only mine still lives, will give it 1 more chance in case it was a fluke

Good luck with RMA....if you get an M4 it may sway me!!! :p

The place i bought it from have advised (through their website) to go back direct to Crucial - ill let you know how i get on :)

My housemate's M225 died last week. He got on the phone to Crucial and they're replacing it with an M4

Sounds promising ;)

Thanks, I had gone to 2030 about 3-4 months ago for no reason other than i just checked one day and saw it there

Might go back to 1916 after reading through that, having said that it seems people were ok after a complete format and rebuild on 2030

No probs, I was on a much earlier FW but it made an interesting read !

As someone else posted above, Crucial also replaced my dead M225 with an M4. Turn around time was quick as well (about 4 days there and back).

Mine was pretty much bang on the 2 year mark as well.

Get an M4, the RMA takes about a week (I've just been through it and got an M4) They WILL send you a 128gb M4 as a replacement :)

excellent news :D

Ive ordered (on Saturday) a Corsair SF 3 v2 and its coming today so will end up with 2 anyway :)

Well- Crucial have given me an RMA number for an exchange, but want me to try a power cycle reset to see if SSD can be seen

In most cases, your SSD can be returned to normal operating condition by completing a power cycle. The process will take approximately one hour.

In a desktop computer, connect only the SATA power connection, or use a USB enclosure with an external power source.

1. Once you have the drive connected and sitting idle, simply power on the computer and wait for 20 minutes. We recommend that you don't use the computer during this process.

2. Power the computer down and disconnect the drive for 30 seconds.

3. Repeat steps 1 and 2 one more time.

4. Reconnect the drive normally, including the SATA connector, and try booting the computer.

After the above steps, the SSD should be detected in the system again
