In theory yes. Under Sharia law, no.

No, under Sharia that is the law. That some fundamentalist idiots that don't understand their own religion deem it wrong doesn't mean they are right or that it is applicable to Sharia.

I drank and ate during the fast in various Muslim Countries, as per the custom in Dubai for example I ate in private and refrained from eating in the street. Most Hotels and Restaurants simply pul down screens so you can eat lunch as usual. It is a custom and if you do not wish to follow their laws or customs then simply do not visit the country in question. Your children can eat and drink wherever they choose as Ramadan is not applicable to Muslim Children anyway.

As for alcohol, during the day you will not be able to buy any, after sunset it returns to normal and in fact in the city I live in you can be arrested for drinking alcohol in the street regardless of the time of day so is that also barbaric?

I was only mentioning the point of drinking water during the fasting months being disallowed in public by the law, and enforced by the Police in such countries.

Whether this is or isnt supported by the religion, or any other countries interpretation of the law was not my point.

Eid Mubarak! :)

Given he's not posted since page 2 does anyone else get the feeling Billythekid has been successful in epically trolling the thread turning it from something pleseant into yet another religious flame fest. /sigh
Billythekid is the OP.

If you are a non-muslim then you will not be arrested, you are generally asked politely to refrain or take a drink inside a nearby establishment. If you have a specific need to drink due to health or infirmity then that is permitted.

There are some people who think they can do as they wish and intentionally eat and drink in public, even after a polite warning they continue to do so and thus they get fined and if they continue they are arrested. Following a few simple rules is not difficult and it is mostly the poor attitude of tourists that get them into strife rather than not knowing the rules themselves.

The good thing about Ramadan in Dubai is that holidaying there is significantly cheaper than at other times, so as long as you abide by some minor cultural rules then you get a great holiday for half the price, and if you really must have a beer before itfar, then there is always the Airport Bar...:)

Absolute leftist / apologetic bullcrap.

Firstly, non muslims arent allowed into Saudi Arabia, and the tiny minority that are there have to live exactly according to the Sharia law like any Muslim would.

Dubai on the other hand would be single worst place in the world to go on a Holiday, I'll never understand why people view the place as a holiday resort.

So much scum in the thread, why don't the admins ban the trollers ffs?

Eid mubaruk to everyone and make sure you have a good one!

Its alright dude, anyone who thinks thighing is part of Islam can prove just how stupid and un-educated they actually are here. lol

I'm a lefty now am I, I was a right wing loon the other day......

Well Saudi Arabia is only one country, and I agree they have some pretty strict interpretations of law, however Non Muslims are not excluded from Saudi Arabia, only from Mecca and parts of Medina. However, as long as you know what the rules are and take the advice of the British Consulate then you should be just fine.

Dubai was an enjoyable holiday, the people are welcoming, extremely nice and couldn't do enough for you. My family and I had a good time. Don't judge a place or people until you have visited for yourself.

Dubai is very relaxed, it's a very touristy place and does not represent the strictness of islamic states.

I go there regularly it's very nice.

Did you try kissing your wife in public?

I didn't say anything about children. Real men play sexy time with real women.

Well, ok. But from my definitions on 'thighing', it isnt something you do to adult women :o

Personally I think Dubai is a big chavtastic display of inappropriate wealth - crude, without character and well a host of other unpleasant things. Let's completely overlook the slave labour camps, the withholding of passports, maltreatment etc. Plenty of historical documents saying the same things you two have when people visited Germany whilst completely ignoring the labour came from the local concentration camps.

If that's the best the region can do at the moment considering the legacy of what it has offered the world then it's all rather sad.
