Cuddly toys/mascots hanging from the rear towing eye?

What's this all about the? I have seen smurfs, random small cuddly toys and even a gollywog being hung from the rear towing eye. Surely this can't be a coincidence?

I have seen these a lot around here. Thought it was mainly a VW thing. Looks pap though.

Half the scooters I see parked up in Chelmsford have at least one Smurf hanging from them, there's a few with about four.

It's just a fad.

Does it not come, indirectly, from the subway train rings that bosozoku cars often have on the towing eye? And then from there to the drift scene and then obviously when it got to England we had to swap it for something crap like a cuddly toy from Mcdonalds.

Yes it does.

Traits and historyThe word bōsōzoku is also applied to motorcycle gangs, who share an interest in modifications (often illegal) for motorcycles, such as removing the mufflers so that more noise is produced. These bōsōzoku groups also engage in dangerous or reckless driving, such as weaving in traffic, not wearing motorcycle helmets, and running red lights. Another activity is shinai bōsō (市内暴走) speeding in city streets, not usually for street racing but more for thrills. With many bikes involved, the leading one is driven by the sentōsha (先頭車), the leader, who is responsible for the event and is not allowed to be overtaken. Japanese police call them Maru-Sō (police code マル走), and dispatch a police vehicle to trail any groups of bikes to prevent any possible incidents, which can include riding through suburbs at speeds of 5–10 miles an hour, creating a loud disturbance and waving imperial Japanese flags, to starting fights which can include weapons such as wooden swords, metal pipes, baseball bats and Molotov cocktails. These bōsōzoku gangs are generally composed of people under the legal adult age, which in Japan is 20 years old.

They were first seen in the 1950s as the Japanese automobile industry expanded rapidly. The first bōsōzoku were known as kaminari zoku (雷族 "Thunder Tribe"). Many, if not most, of bōsōzoku came from a lower socioeconomic class and may have used the motorcycle gang activities as a way to express disaffection and dissatisfaction with Japanese mainstream society. Many of the most hard-core bōsōzoku would become lower-ranking members of the Yakuza after turning 20 years of age.

In the 1980s and 90s, bōsōzoku would often embark on massed rides, in which up to 100 bikers would cruise together slowly en masse down an expressway or major highway. The motorcyclists would run toll booths without stopping and would ignore police attempts to detain them. New Years Eve was a popular occasion for the massed rides. The bikers would sometimes smash the cars and beat up any motorists or bystanders who got in the way or expressed disapproval with the bikers' behavior. The bikers would also often target foreigners for violence. Participation in the gangs peaked at 42,510 members in 1982.[1]

In 2004 the Japanese government passed a revised road traffic law which gave the police more power to arrest bikers riding recklessly in groups. With increased arrests and prosecutions, bōsōzoku participation went into decline. As of 2010, police reported that the new trend among bōsōzoku was to ride together in much smaller groups and to ride scooters instead of heavily modified motorcycles. Aichi prefecture was reported to have the highest number of riders, followed by Tokyo, Osaka, Ibaraki, and Fukuoka.[2]

In February 2011, the Japanese National Police announced that membership in the gangs had fallen to 9,064, the lowest number since the collection of data on the gangs began in 1975. The police put the total number of gangs nationwide at 507, down 76 from 2009.[3]

sadly, the vw "scene" is so over-run by chavvy mods its unreal

mk4s are definately taking the brunt of it at the moment. ALL on a8 wheels, ALL with leds/hids, ALL with far too many doors

It's very pointless, and tacky looking to me, same goes for streched tyres, and ****** up camber, those people should be burned at the stake imo.

Silly camber (now rectified), stretched tyres, black furry bum balls with pink spots (now deceased) and also a lurking Hello Kitty. I'm going to hell.

I couldn't be any less scene if I tried. Mk2 with a pair of dented wings, small bumpers, original ride heigh and 13" steels.

Un-scene is the new scene.

shame about the wings but it sounds like an alright car

ive got a mk3 and mk4 golf. both pretty low, both tweaked engines, but visually standard on the outside apart from pepperpot wheels on the mk3

im sort of "scene", if anything just doing the "oem+" thing

Both wings and the front valance will be replaced in due course.

One side was some numpy that reversed into me admitted fault and paid cash the other was an incident involving a me, a very large amount of understeer and an empty field.

Cars great other than a few scuffs and scrapes here and there. No structural rust, 114,000 miles on an 89 plate and standard other than a 3" back box
