Sorry to tell you but... the main cannon is THE only decent weapon on the jet.
It can disable tanks/AA/choppers/jets in one pass (albeit a slow one for tanks). Rocket pods are soo weak it makes you wonder if it is just there to switch to whilst your cannon reloads. Heat seekers are next to useless when people have stealth and flares.
Not trying to troll here or be insensitive or anything, but what rubbish.
If you think the Heatseakers are next-to-useless then you'redoingitwrong.jpg, plain and simple. I have no problems whatsoever using Heatseakers against jets that have both Stealth and Flares - you just need to know when to fire. If you're right up close behind them you can pop both missiles and they should still hit even through flares, but you have to be very close for this to work. Any other range, get a lock and fire one missile. By the time they've flared off and you've reacquired the lock, assuming you're a competent pilot and can actually keep them within your reticule, your second missile should be back and you can fire both off for a double hit before their flares have regenerated.
Even if you can only get one hit with a Heatseaker, it's then only two or three hits from the chain gun and that jet is going down.
The rocket pods rip through armour so long as you're accurate with them - and they do like to spread around a bit from what I've seen so far - so they are a bit harder to get used to. Personally I would favour the chain gun over the rockets unless it's a jeep or infantry you're shooting at.
The Guided Missile is appauling to use when you first get it. It takes a long time to lock on to vehicles, through which you have to be flying fairly high to begin with, and then fly fairly straight to get the lock, and then eventually fire a missile down - all the while you're looking at a screen rather than around your cockpit, leaving you open to free fire from enemy anti-air capabilties.
However, and this is a big however, one you unlock Beam-Scanning, the world changes. Lock-ons to other jets take next to no time at all, to the extent that someone can flare off and I will have them locked again two seconds later. This applies to the guided missile as well. This locks on a lot quicker making it quite a useful tool on ground vehicle-heavy maps like Kharg Island and Operation Firestorm.
As I said to begin with, not trying to be harsh or hurtful, but it's down to user error from where I'm standing
