Is there any hope in this "spec me"?

You are doing this all wrong Scuzi. You should be purchasing a Certified Pre Owned US market 328i and living there! Don't bring her over here, thats totally backward :p

If I could get a job I'd be over there right now. No jobs though :(

If no one ate meat, the only cows we would have would live in zoo's, no farmer would ever keep a cow for the hell of it :D

So what do you want, cows or no cows?

I couldn't give a damn! I love burgers. It's the wife who's shy of meat.:o

I tried the whole "but the cow is already dead" and the "lets do the poor animal justice by getting the most use from it's resources" argument but it didn't wash.

Big VAG cars are the only sort that I can imagine without leather. I'll look into it.

Unlucky dude :(

My mrs is a vegetarian and we have a beautiful three piece leather suite - she loves it.

Pesky vegans :(

The reason I bumped this 6 month old thread was to say I had bought a car :p

I'll post pics when I get it in a couple of weeks.

Just tell her its artificial leather, no offence meant but if she's silly enough to not eat properly because she dislikes the idea of cows being milked or something she would probably believe it...

There's no need to be a douche about it.

My feelings:

Business Nav :(
Cloth interior :(
BMW :)
Pre LCI E90 :(
No Xenons :(
Heated electric seats :)
Diesel :(
3 litre 6 cyl :)

Yup, it's far from perfect but I'm happy with it for the price. LCI wasn't within budget, cloth seats were required rather than tolerated and I haven't in the past few months seen one car with a cloth interior come up with any form of navigation apart from this! TBH I never use navigation, I just wanted it specced so the car had iDrive. I actually prefer the drive of the diesel over the petrol. Yes it sounds like a tractor outside but inside it's much more refined than my Z4 and the effortless nature of the power delivery is quite nice.

The lack of xenons is pretty much the only thing I don't like about the car. Where should I look to find out more about retrofitting?

STOP.

Its the right car for your requirements but don't slip into deluded-diesel-owner land. The engine isn't as good, full stop and the things you like over the Z4 are because it's a more refined car with an autobox not because its a diesel :p

It depends what you want out of the car. Yes, the petrol engine is lighter, more powerful and probably more reliable and for driving in an enthusiastic manner it is absolutely the superior engine. I've kind of lost interest in driving. I wouldn't bother with it if I didn't need to get to work. I'm now officially a boring git and from a boring git point of view, I prefer how the diesel engine drives.

I'm more than aware of the diesel traits and I'm not deluded. I was comparing the refinement to my Z4, not the merits of the engine. Although, the N52 in the Z4 doesn't sound much different from the diesel on a cold morning :p

EDIT:
Can you point me to any info on retrofitting xenon lights if it's possible? Thanks.

I think you should get the car you want.

Then when she gets mad, buy her some diamonds.

Happy days!

I would do this, only, rather than purchase her diamonds, point to the door and tell her she is free to leave. Call her bluff. Compromise is failure. There are over 3.5 billion women on the planet, I doubt she is special.
