*** Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary - Official Thread ***

Can't wait, day one purchase. I don't understand why it's so cool to hate on Halo nowadays, it's the best console FPS end of conversation. I quite fancy playing though 2 & 3 after this aswell, wonder If I can squeeze all 3 in one weekend.

It is only £28, not exactly full price. And Reach looked fantastic, and so does the Single player, so not a problem for me.

I always end up putting the original on, it is my favorite of the series, so to be able to play it in HD makes me a very happpy bunny.

If you check HotUKDeals, you can get it for £24 (including special DLC) with a voucher code or £22 with quidco cashback.

definitely getting this, hang-em high in HD online?! (at least I presume all the original multiplayer maps are there!). I'm struggling with the ten year thing, I still remember getting home from work and my flat mate sitting there playing CE on release day. We used to have four xbox's hooked up for all night gaming sessions lol lugging the old tube tv's around was a nightmare: ten years in technology is so long!

Not all maps are in :(. The PC ones are majorly missing :(. Still, the original had some nice maps:

Old name / New name:

Announced multiplayer maps in Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary include:
Beaver Creek / Battle Canyon
Hang 'Em High / High Noon
Damnation / Penance
Timberland / Ridgeline[6]
Prisoner / Solitary[7]
Headlong / Breakneck

Also, from what I've read you have to get the maps via XBL, they don't come with the game hence the game uses it's own engine and multiplayer uses reach engine.

Cheers

Would have been good if they'd brought the maps out as a map pack for Reach. Then those with just Reach could have MP'd with HALO CE folks, and visa versa.

Taking as the MP side is separate and using the Reach engine.

I thought there was cross multiplayer with Reach?

Perhaps it's just the new maps that won't be, in their own playlist or something.

so the campaign is the original engine with updated visuals (good, best way to keep the original feel), the multiplayer maps have to be downloaded from XBL? Why is that? They are not going to charge for the multiplayer maps separately are they as a map pack? If this is so then it's a no-purchase for me. If the multiplayer maps use the Reach engine then I can only imagine they will not have the feel as the original maps, otherwise why not just skin the old maps and use the original engine like the campaign? I imagine (as mentioned here already) that the maps will be available to download for Reach players so this diminishes the value in buying the game at launch at full price. Or have I got it wrong?

I think that's the way it works.
You buy CE:A and it allows you to jump into the new multiplayer maps, much like if you'd bought noble pack or something. If you don't have CE:A and folks open the CE:A up to rotation you will drop from the lobby, that annoying message you don't have DLC.

So I read about 2 months back anyway. HIH.

--Edit:

The new maps will not just utilize the Reach engine, but will actually be merged with the Halo Reach server (similar to ODST and Halo 3). At some point in time the maps will be available for Reach players; even if they don’t have Halo CE Anniversary.

the problem is that its the SAME engine, so allthough its one of my all time fav's "better" graphics dosnt cut it for me, i never buy a game for its visuals. it's still gunna be clunky and not smooth at all. theres plenty of feed back off it just google some info. im happy sticking on the xbox and just playing the original

as above, its not good to keep the old engine - and i love halo its the best out of the 3 imo

Wait wait wait...

So the SP campaign is using the ORIGINAL Halo engine? Just upped to HD res and newer textures?

I thought they'd remade the entire game in the Reach engine. :(

If it's just a res and texture change, how come they haven't got it running at a nice solid 60fps then, how come it's still at 30 :(

I could understand 30 if it was fully blinged out like Reach, but not for just a res and texture boost.

some of the MP maps are done with the reach engine, the actual campaign is the old engine (i'll try find the link with the info, but im sure google will help you)

I thought it was in the reach engine :/

The orginal engine was fine tbh - but I'm sure they've made some tweaks to bring it fully up to date?

original is fine, but why buy it again if u got the old one? :D - im sure there are "tweaks" but nothing mentionable, other than some added graphics that 343 have put in to make it "newer", easter eggs etc.

TBH I'd have much preferred them to make it 60fps, than add in a bajillion effects.

That's the most annoying thing about HALO games, how sluggish they feel due to the framerate.

It must be the engine they use for HALO, as some games at 30fps feel fine (e.g. GoW).

But with HALO you can really tell the difference when say you go from HALO @ 30fps, to CoD @ 60fps.

It's night and day.

The original ran as smooth as silk on the old xbox, but when ran on the 360, it was very jerky. It wasn't a framerate problem, just seemed to freeze every second.

Plus it wasn't widescreen.
