Asrock Z68 Extreme 4 and 7 UEFI

Asrock just dont have the customer support like Asus as they still havent fixed the problems with the first gen Asrock Z68 Extreme 4.

Just looked on the motherboard section, looks like Asus customer support will need to be good. Judging by the amount of problems their boards have ;)

Asrock Extreme 4 gen 3 running fine but will say I had to move my mouse keyboard to 2 different usb slots as it would not post whilst in the 3.0

I dont know if it was me not putting them in the correct slots to start with but after moving them both I have had no probs at all.

Logitech G510 k/b and Logitech G9 mouse here.

Asrock actually advise not too connect mouse/keyboards to usb 3 and to use usb 2 instead, maybe something to do with backwards compatibilty with mice and k boards.

Thanks tipes. I guessed it was just me. As per normal in my excitement of putting in a new board and cpu I didn't bother with the manual :D

I will ask though that when I did look at the manual and board it advised putting in my boot drive to the intel sata port but as I am a little slow I could not work out which one that was.
Would it make that much of a difference if I was not in the correct port? or more so is that mainly for SSD's?

Thanks Tipes, can't remember reading that in the manual.
But, I wasn't affected with any issues, my Extreme 4 gen 3 worked flawlessly.:o
Never even thought of using USB3, as I use the two usb ports next to the PS2 for keyboard & mouse.

Hi,

AFAIK the intel controllers are regarded as the best performing sata ports/controller as they supply better bandwith for sata3 drives and ssd. This is more important for performance of ssd as intel controllers usually allow full performance to sata 3 spec - other controllers less so and can be flaky performers. I have the 7 board and the intel controlled sata ports are sata 0,1 and A1 to A4 and they are coloured Grey - avoid the black ports below these as they are controlled by Asmedia chip and are Sata 2.

Hope this helps

Mark

Thanks Mark,

This is why I love overclockers, because there is so many knowledgable people here :D

SSD for chrimbo and now I know where to put it.

Thanks again.

Ive had the inverted mouse issue on the 4, but really it didnt bother me at all. Got used to it soon enough.

Bios update did fix it for me tho.

Idiots like that shouldn't be writing reviews, as he obviously hasn't got a clue what he's doing.

Mind you there are a lot of people who really shouldn't be allowed to open the side of a PC.
I've been building my own PC's for 15 years and looking through many forums I can honestly say 90% of the problems are user errors, nothing to do with faulty hardware.

Too true. Lol
