Stafford to get a 2nd Weatherspoon?

Newport, Gwent has got like 4 of them I think.

They're a great place to meet up with everyone, but I wouldn't want to stay there all night.

I did read that spoons were going to take over the old chigaro rock cafe place opposite but that fell thru for some reason so they have been looking for somewhere. I have to say when i used to go drinking we would often meet in apres for the first drink of the night it wasnt that bad but yeah its always one of the first or last drink laces you would go to.

You have got to be the only person I have ever heard of who is complaining about getting a Wetherspoons. They are great. Good choice of proper ales (none of that larger ****, though that is there too) good food (pint time food) and cheap prices.

Flavour depends on the individual pub/bar. The ones I go to always have good ale on the pumps. I have one that plays aweful R & B music but that's a missfortune of the times not the bar itself. The other one I go to is nice and quiet. Well except for all the banter.

the alcohol in weatherspoons tastes like crap (unless bottled and them some of that is bad too)

its all close to end of life hence the price

I can confirm that, for at the least the two I've worked in, this is indeed rubbish. Some barrels would be close to the end of their life, and they'd generally be discounted, but the rest are just cheap due to volume. I've had some awful pints in Spoons, and had some great ones too, depends where you go, and who's in charge of the cellar. My first one (Temeraire, Saffron Walden) had an incredibly dedicated guy looking after the cellar, and the beers were always superb. Mind, that was in 2005, and he's now in Manchester. Though, I went for a pint at his new pub, and the beers there are awesome too :p

Bottom line, crap beer happens everywhere, it's down to the pub staff, not the chain.

you contradicted yourself in the first sentece confirming what i said in the first place

Ahahahahahaha.

Exactly what my reaction was. The food is microwave garbage. My sister runs her own Wetherspoons and often brings home curries that were defrosted but didn't get used. I hate to pass on free food, but they're just so horrible after a while, they usually end up getting binned.

Well I live in Stafford and their is no need for the second Spoons. The town night life is the other end of the town. To be honest the nightlife isn't the best either, its ok, but Stafford is a pretty small town anyway, so to be expected.

Blimey, I've had to pick myself up from the floor on hearing this news. Earthshattering! Rushes to find where the palce is.....

Its a shame they stopped them :( Had many a hazy friday morning at work after thursday band night :)

The only thing is that it was like playing in an auditorium with the majority of people looking down on you from the balcony and our backdrop was a film of all the 'meal deals' :)

As much as I love the Pie & Ale house, I do miss the Surgery.
