The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim announced

Had my first real play of this game tonight and I must say I am very impressed.

It actually runs, and after a few fiddles with the settings it runs very smoothly. So far I have had no CTDs which is very good for me.

I remember been blown away by Morrowind, then by Oblivion, now by Skyrim.

I've only got as far as the Dragon Book questy thing at the beginning but I like the Barrow, much better than the generic dungeons in Oblivion. I like the crafting bits and bobs at the forge as well although I made a load of the wrong helmets and now need to kill more wolves.....

Chuffed to bits with this game. :)

I think I missed something when I went in that first dungeon because on my quest log I got the claw but I didnt get the "Dragonstone" and my quest log still says I need to:

-Find the secret of Bleak Falls Barrow
-Retrieve the Dragonstone

So does this mean I need to go back into that dungeon? Please can someone explain how to complete both parts.

Thanks in advance.

I got the claw and then followed the passages down to an inner sanctum which is where I shall continue tomorrow.

Wee hee, finally fathomed out how to get a healing spell in one hand and sword in the other, must read the manual next time.

I was thinking of getting Skyrim but was worried it would be boring like Oblivion.

I dont have much attention span for these games but this one soo far is ok.
Thank god i have an Xbox pad, its a blessing and a curse.

Stuff like lock picking is cool cos the pad rumbles and the entire game UI is built on pad controls which is rather sad.

Only problem i have is cos i dont use a pad much Ive had a lot of USER ERROR and ive after finishing the first golden claw dungeon quest, gone and slapped a chicken in town and now the entire place is trying to kill me..... My auto save starts with everyone shiving me and hitting me with war-hammers.....

I did a save in the Dungeon i think.. ill have to look tomorrow ....

I find it pretty funny that my Cat persons unarmed claw attack is about 200x more powerful than any weapon i can get hold of yet.

As for archery... wow thats a total fail on the Xbox controller... thats kinda ruined 25% of the game for me sadly :(

Im not sure ill get too far into this one... I wanted to focus on Magic too but the pad system... my god i just cant do it properly and swapping stuff about.. its so fiddly.

im so tired and have to be up at 7 curse you SKYRIm!!!

Yes you need to go back :D The very last room before you exit to the mountain top is where you need to go.

This is the 3rd time I've asked for help on a location. Hopefully someone knows this time. Does anyone know where The Aalto is?

Screenshots of the map would be awesome.

I must be doing something wrong because I find archery with the pad to be pretty cool! :)

Think i might try an assassin in the morning, either that or remake my character without the smithing perks. 32 now with the sword n board warrior and everything is just too easy even on the max difficulty. Still loving the game world and exploring but even giants aren't a challenge anymore

I am experiencing what I suspect is a horrible bug, in the mages quest line.

I am pretty certain that a door is failing to open, when it is supposed to. I can even see where the passage way should continue on my map, but annoyingly it is failing to trigger correctly.

How do I do spoilers? I would like to get some advice from anyone else who has completed the mage quest line.

Just say there's spoilers in your post. Anyone with common sense will stop reading there.

I've recently finished the mage guild so I should be able to help.

Searching the wiki, I found a lore reference to the place, written in one of the in-game books:

In north-central Skyrim, there is an area called The Aalto, which is of unique geographical interest. It is a dormant volcanic valley surrounded on all sides by glaciers, so the earth is hot from the volcano, but the constant water drizzle and air is frigid. A grape called Jazbay grows there comfortably, and everywhere else in Tamriel it withers and dies. The strange vineyard is a privately owned, and the wine produced from it is thus rare and extremely expensive. It is said that the Emperor needs the permission of the Imperial Council to have a glass of it once a year.

Hopefully this helps.

Go ahead and bookmark that wiki too, it came in handy when I played Oblivion, and will probably come in handy for Skyrim too.

Alduin's Bane quest bug problems:

I just got the Elder Scroll and headed back to the Throat Of The World to read it. The problem is when the cutscene plays and they shout 'Alduin is approaching' nothing happens. The NPCs just stand around and there's nothing I can do but reload to an earlier save.

I've tried restarting the game and trying again from a different save but still no dice. Is anyone else experiencing this bug?

Had a mind blowing moment when I accidently stumbled across a dragon whilst exploring just outside some town. I was getting owned (lv10) when the ground began shaking a lot more than it was with the dragon stomping around. I turned around to see two WOLLY MAMMOTHS and a giant coming to join in the fight. It changed the tide nicely :D

That bit is a bit buggy, my horse was in the scene with them which was weird.

Further to my comment some pages back about not being able to use magicka and a weapon at the same time. I've since discovered if you have a signle handed weapon in your right hand and the magicka on your left hand, pressing "block" (RMB) as if holding a shield launches the spell without sheathing your weapon.

I also like the ability to deliver a blast of power rather than short bursts, useful for taking down bandits at range.
