****The Official Samsung Galaxy S II Thread***

just a quick question....

ive flashed my phone with cyanogemod now i think theres a update available today for it.. if i stick in a 2gb sd card... is it possible to back up all my messages/pics and contacts to the sd card?

also if i add a contact into my a phone (a new one) how do i update it to my gmail acount?

thanks

Grab an app called SMSbackup+ that will backup all your SMS to your Google account. Go to settings > accounts & sync > select the account you want to sync contacts to.

Pictures you can just copy across to your sdcard.

Got to say I'm impressed with the stability of this phone compared to the SGS. I've had almost 400 hours uptime on mine now without restarting. I know some people will say 'oh that's nothing, I've never restarted mine' and so on, but I use mine a fair bit and try out lots of different apps, games etc. I always was tinkering with the SGS to eek out more performance, but this is testament to how fast the phone is and how good the stock roms are (I'm on KI4) in terms of speed and stability. I've only felt the need to upgrade the ROM once (who wants to be on carrier firmware, right?) and it's been awesome. I won't be touching it again until Ice Cream Sandwich is out, and is stable.

Is this phone supposed to come with a manual?

Mine didn't come with anything other than a Quick Start Guide.

What's all this voice talk stuff, car mode etc?

Any ideas? Is a manual downloadable online?

How can I fix this?

Just got mine at the weekend and have to say I'm stunned, first few hours I felt a bit deflated as I'd gone from an sgs and couldn't feel much of a difference. The longer i've spent with this mobile the more and more its coming into its own. Battery life is incredible! Very happy I got one and would not hesitate to recommend it. Roll on sgs3 lol

What satnav should i get for this phone, used to use tomtom on my iphone but obviously that isn't a choice now!

agreed, can't fault google nav.

use a firmware that's actually been officially released? You can't update via Kies from a non-official firmware.

Or even better, uninstall kies and continue updating via odin.

Battery life is incredible!

Why do people keep saying this? Did your previous phone battery only last 20 minutes or something? or aren't you using it?

Try google navigation

I could do with something that doesn't need to download maps, or will google nav cache maps when i set a route up?

But when your battery life goes from 1 to 2 days its a big deal! :)
