WD release NEW **WDTV LIVE PLAYER**

I'm interested in one of these BUT....

I live in a standard 3 bed semi and the router is upstairs at the front of the house, the player would be downstairs at the back of the house.

I assume i'm going to have problems playing content over wifi, especially in HD?

Similar setup to my house, router upstairs in back of house, living room in front right of the house.

Streams perfectly fine over Wireless (N)

Steamed a bluray rip of Avatar at 20GB over wireless N

Played perfectly, although I would recommend you do not try and fast forward or rewind as you may be sitting there a while!

Pause/Play worked perfectly though.

Not to sure how it would perform through the homeplug

if it works fine via WiFi, should be even better via ethernet :)
Thanks

Mines gone from bad to worse.

Finally got it to download and update the firmware which seemed to make the remote control and menu scrolling jerky and crappier ?!

Tried streaming a simple 350mb AVI from Vuse to it. Played to 40 minutes at the final point then it froze. Wouldnt respond to the remote, sat for 3 minutes then said it wouldnt connect to the media server. Load of balls. Ive been streaming from Vuse to my Samsung 6000 LED telly for 8 months and my PS3 for over a year!

When it finally got rid of that error message the remote still wouldnt function so Ive turned it off and am going to send it back to OC :(

Oh well, looks like it wasnt meant to be.

Sounds like a defective one :(

I have no such issues and I got from OC also.

I got this unit and its been returned today to another retailer.

The unit was overheating after 30mins during movie playback, causing the device to reboot. You can imagine how frustrating this was during movies.

Ive had a lot of experience with WD media players and to be honest everyone has its own problems, Bad firmware and lack of support from WD is the main problem.

Ive just plugged back in my old WDTV Live with custom firmware WDXLTV on it and im happy with that for now.

Honestly guys the firmware on the new streamer is shocking. Cant even display PNG files without it corrupting the UI.

I just hope i got 1 of a bad batch that had dodgy soldering etc.

For now, ill avoid this product till i see better feedback and support.

Go to Network Share Server and turn it to OFF

a few users have reported this problem and the above solved it.

Probably a stupid question but can you display the time left of the playing video file? I'm thinking of getting one but have become so used to having that information on that I find it weird when it's not..

Cheers for that upload. That looks very nice but with this new one it looks like its going back. Just goes to show that WD hardware and me dont mix. Especially hard drives LOL

New media player doesnt do static movie sheets so it's sluggish when browsing and had limitations , personally wdtv live is better than new model if u ask me

Does this have an easy option for shuffling subtitles forwards/backwards by 0.5/1 seconds as VLC player does? From the remote? (well it has to be from the remote right!)

A little overlay pops up at the bottom of the screen showing current playing posistion and time played/total video time.

Haven't played about with it enough to see if it can just show time remaining, will try and test it out tonight for you but the parents have been hogging it ever since I bought them it.

Don't know if it has subtitle sync, I remember seeing audio sync in the options but can't remember if there is anything for subtitles.

WDTV live is here
just one problem...
how do I add files to library, so they are in folders ??
at the moment I have added movies to videos library using media player but later on I see all files in one folder..

so how to get them organized ??
For now I will be streaming from PC but later will do that from NAS.
thanks for advice

Not sure what you mean, i store all my movies on an external USB and each movie is placed in its own folder. So when it auto detects them when you boot up.
