Footballers Wages

Why?

No one gets forced to join the Services. Why should people doing other jobs be made to feel guilty for those serving in Afghan etc?

Im sorry but we all know what can be required when we join the military. We get told how much we are gonna earn before we sign up.

Who asked people to feel guilty? I never and I doubt any serving soldier wants you to feel guilty. But one thing that makes me smile is when someone states they arent forced to join the services and they are just doing their jobs etc. Of course this is correct, but think what the alternative was if no-one felt like volunteering anymore. National service of some kind, so that person may have found themselves doing a year in a craphole like Iraq or Afghan.
Back on subject my personal opinion is that they are paid poorly in comparision with say Police Officers, Firemen etc. As for footballers their wages are obscene and the conduct of most of them is also a disgrace.
Let me clarify one thing. Premier division wages are obscene. The further down the leagues you go the wages come down to what many would consider normality.

A footballer could have a good go at being a decent soldier or nurse.

A nurse or soldier would make a useless professional footballer.

Thats the bottom line...

Not really quite a few squaddies have made the professional football ranks. It all boils down to who you think provides the best service so to speak for the wages they are paid. Any Man Utd fan think Rooney is worth his new 200k plus a week contract? As a non Utd fan and armchair England fan i think 200k for a red card waiting to happen as soon as things dont go my way manchild is excessive.

Yes they are over paid, but its YOUR FAULT. You poor billions of pounds into the sport, where exactly do you think all that money is going to go? Poor families are forced to buy dodgy knock off england kit and they get arrested because the overpriced sweat shop stuff is so expensive? Give me a break.

Unhappy about how much footballers are paid 1) Dont buy merchandise 2) Don't pay overpriced match tickets.

3) Don't subscribe to SKY

Let's all become communists!

Threads like this really hack me off, I've always been brought up being told the harder and smarter you work the more you earn.

I'm not lucky enough to have a talent like Premiership footballers worth millions, so I have to rely on the skills I do have to make a living.

However if I could earn millions from kicking a ball around, I'd be doing it and laughing my way to the bank!

Well that's hardly a comparison is it. The correct one would be would a professional footballer be able to directly transition to the SAS or say a PICU nurse specialist - no chance. Likewise would a squaddie or a bog-standard nurse be able to transition to a professional footballer - no chance. Would a squaddie or a nurse be able to play for a sunday league team - yes, would a footballer be able to become a squaddie - most likely - would they pass a degree to become a nurse - actually most likely not!

Oh i dunno a lot of squaddies are Tradesmen aswell so some do have brains as shocking as that sounds:)

lol-o-rific!

Never understood this argument, especially these days - what are they achieving for us? We're not being invaded, nor are we likely to be invaded. I might entertain the idea of paying soldiers more if they offered value for money, but currently the military is a massive money pit with almost no benefit to show for it.

Have to admit that since we invaded half the middle east, again, I feel much safer. Honest

So the squaddies just upped sticks and invaded the middle east did they? Or was it that they were sent their by the Politicians of this country? Unfortunately they dont get a choice where they serve they do as they are ordered. I think you will find that soldiers offer fantastic value for money the MOD on the other hand is a wasteful behmoth. For example would you put your life on the line daily for 14k a year? I refer to my earlier statement also that if these guys didnt volunteer to serve then we would have a conscript army filled by national service similar to a lot of European nations. You too could then experience the delights of Afghan for a pittance;)

And nowhere did I say they did not my point was that your average topflight footballer would struggle to do a degree and more exactly that the example given was not a fair comparison at all.

They kick a football about and train all week (ish)

Yes, its stressfull on their bodys...But you know.

Half of them have earned more than what i've earned in all my working career in just a couple of weeks :p

I still say every footballer or person earning over 40k or so should have a £1 taken from their wages every month thats then given to charitys :p

You've missed my point, I asked HOW do you evaluate what an employee is worth. I know what footballers do, but what would you pay them and based on what factors?

If I knew I could charge a bunch of numpties millions for the rights to watch that footballer, then I'd probably value their work quite highly.

How much more than you earn in a year, do some footballers earn in a week, and what are your views on that?

I'm not going to work out the % it's irrelevant.

Sadly all this money has ruined the game for meand the sooner the bubble bursts the better, it will inevitably burst.

Exactly my point. An employees wage is largely dependent on how much money they are making the company. If they are making their clubs multiples of what they earn it's only reasonable that they are paid gazillions.

Pay is not related to the value someone adds to society but the revenue he creates for his employer. That's why sport stars, bankers, blue chip CEOs etc are paid megabucks.

Generally speaking, if someone thinks they are not doing a good enough job then why not try out yourselves and make just as much! Oh, wait..you can't because you're not as talented/good/whatever.

Life doesn't work the way parents/school taught you/us. It's a jungle out there kids! Watch out!
