*** Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary - Official Thread ***

Picked mine up from tesco on saturday as they seemt o be selling this early? anyway played the first two levels and initially I was a bit underwhelmed by the look of it - however pressing the back buttom reverts to the orginal graphics doing this a few times you can really see how much of a difference there is. The feel of the game is pretty much exactly the same as the orginal Halo but thats not a complaint as that is what I was after ;)

Other than multiplayer, what does this offer that running my PC version in a high res doesn't?

I'm interested because i loved Halo 1, but if it's literally only a res update and not new lighting effects etc i'm not going to bother.

It's not just a resolution update. Look at a video.

Mine turned up today (thanks Tesco) and I've managed to squeeze in an hour or two. The gameplay is exactly like it used to be (oh, the happy memories) with some nice tweaks (e.g. no more hyper accurate pistol-sniping). The general feel of the landscapes is much richer. The ability to switch back and forth between the old and the new looks is nice. I found myself on several occasions just stopping to admire the scenery.
I have't even reached the Flood yet. I remember when I originally played that section, that when I started going into rooms covered in purple blood (that I didn't spill) that the hairs on the back of my neck stood up. Time to see if that can be recaptured.
I must say though that some of the human facial features and movement styles are still very old-Xbox. Nowehere near as refined as, for example, Reach. However, rose-tinted glasses or not, I choose to see that as a fond reminder of the original version.

All in all, I'm happy with my money spent. Now all I have to do is remember to actually get some sleep tonight. :)

Oh, and by the way, my pack came with the Grunt Funeral Skull code, avatar codes for male and female Master Chief suits, Halo Reach multiplayer maps and 2 days free Gold membership.

Just played the first couple of levels & I'm loving it. All the fond memories come flooding back.

The kinect stuff is a bit naff tbh. You just use the voice commands to scan objects whilst playing the main game, then you get to loock at a nice 3d model that you can rotate & give some text info on what ever the object is.

If it brings back the memories thats what will make me happy.

Picking this up today from game when im in town before i have a lecture (2-4pm lecture with nothing in the morning) but ive been very tempted to skip said lecture and just play halo :p

I actually thought Halo 3 was the worst Halo of the lot. ODST and Reach are both better than 3 although ODST does show its origins as an expansion pack, 2 is more story driven, whilst the 1st one offered more freedom and roaming in the maps, especially earlier on.

I was almost about to disagree with you there, i spent a lot of time on Halo 3 and perhaps some of the best moments i've had in a game have been when doing the 4 player coop vidmaster achievements (which i never did finish :p). But when i thought about which i would class as the worst Halo game i realised it would probably have to be 3, just by way of process of elimination. Well, 3 or Reach - sometimes you just get tired of jet packs and the like, not sure what there is between them in terms of the story.

Still not sure if I'll buy this, but MS sent me a discount code for a Halo Aniversary Pizza. Nom... thats my tea sorted. The order confirmation also came with a 2 day xbox live code.

ODST could have been so much more. Too much of it was spent on your own, which was a shame as they'd got some great voice talent for your team mates (especially for Firefly fans ;))

I quite liked ODST, I think I'd have to go with reach as my least favourite of the halo games. Its not a bad game, I just didn't enjoy the campaign as much as the others
