The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim announced

Sorry, I haven't read any of the thread as I don't want to see too many spoilers. Just wondering if I would need to have played any of the other games to play this one?

You will find lots of books in the game talking about what happened in the past, even one that describes what happened in Oblivion (The Oblivion Crisis I believe the book is called). Or you can just read the story of the past elder scrolls games on wiki :)

Some more questions if you please!

Duel casting Spells:
Does the duel casting ability work on any spells? like fire+healing or fire+frost or does it have to be frost+frost or fire+fire

Companion:
I got my first companion, lydia I think is her name, and she's a div, she blocks me in small coridoors in dungeons which is annoying and always stand in the wrong place when am trying to shoot my bow, but anyways...when I speak to her I've never pressed any of the options, but one of them says "I need you to do something for me", what does that option do? The reason I didn't try out any of the options yet is because I didn't want her to dissapear as I like her to tank giants for me, not that she last long, but it lets me go behind him and do some damage from behind, lol, that sounds gay, but you know what I mean haha.

Thanks in advance. :D

You wield any combination of spells, so you can use fire + ice etc, anything. You can also overcharge spells which is when you use two of the same spell and cast it with both hands at once (this requires a perk from in each tree of magic.)

With the companions, hold down E while looking at them and it brings up options such as wait here or attack this person and use it to get them out of your way. :D

Now my question - Has anyone beaten Otar the mad? Hes a dragonpriest - absolutely annihilated my lvl 15 mage. Just stumbled across him.

Has anyone found a merchant with more than 750 gold?

Merchant gold values change, quite frequently in whiterun they are over 1000 gold for me, then i bring them down by selling my lootz and they have zero. Come back another time and they are back up.

Thanks! I actually have Oblivion on PS3, so might give it a whirl as I believe it can be played in third person.

I assume that Skyrim would be best to get on PC though? £35 seems a bit steep for a game I can't sell after completion but from what I have read it's worth it.

Can anyone explain what the Azura's Star actually does? I can't figure it out. (I gave it to Aranea, btw)

If its the same as the one from morrowind and oblivion, its a reusable soul gem of the highest standard. Can trap anything in it and reuse it again after making an enchant or recharging a weapon ect.

Theres an achievment for getting married. Is there one specific NPC that you can marry or numerous ones? And where the heck do you find them? Also, does it give any benefits?

I just stumbled into a quest today which seems to involve me getting married, i wont put any spoilers but it has a lot to do with my getting drunk :D

According to the guesstimate on VGChartz, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim has sold over 3.4 million copies in 48 hours, a figure which does not include digital sales. They say: "59% of units were sold on the X360 (over 2 million copies) and 27% on the PS3, with 14% on PC."

That works out to 476,000 PC copies sold. Steam shows over 230k max concurrent users so I'd think it's sold way more than that really.

A cool £13.8 million is nothing to sniff at :)

It does say not including digital sales, i'd imagine Steams sales would have been pretty high for this one.
