The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim announced

Anyone else finding magic underpowered compared to oblivion and morrowind? Level 36 yet magic seems very poor considering destruction is one of my primary trees.

ARGHHHH.

Think i made a huuuge mistake in talking on the last college of winterhold quest. Im level 10 and havent even met a dragon yet (so cant use shouts) and just cant get through this dungeon, never mind fight the boss that will be there.

Im halfway through it now, is it ok to just go back and attempt this when im about level 20? Has anyone finished that quest yet? what level were you?

Yay finally level up to 90 smithing did use a bit of assist to jump 10 levels was getting boring!

Also is anyone getting this problem with DOF:

Ok, so my first few hours in and I've just reached the first town. I initially had the CTD and fixed it by reducing the sound quality setting as others have done too. Then I had a freeze and now save regularly. Trying to play it on Ultra settings but my graphics card can't handle it. Will do some tuning and so on.

What do I think so far? Well... it's certainly good. It hasn't "gripped" me but it is good so far. The gameplay is solid; I like the Melee combat and so can see myself playing this through to the end unlike many games I have purchased recently. Can't wait to get to use some spells. The graphics are much better than previous games from Bethesda, particularly the animations, thanks to the new engine, but it doesn't give as much value for performance I think. There are games that look much much better and require significantly less hardware to achieve it.

There are some clear technical problems here than people are letting on and are so keen to overlook in their reviews particularly with the freezing/crashing. Will continue to play this tonight after having an hours tweaking in the graphics settings.

Anyone know anything about V-sync and Triple Buffering for this game?

Making a gfx engine for open world games is significantly different than for other genres, there's a lot of compromises to be made. It's not cutting edge as it has to be generic (and work on consoles).

I haven't found it particularly crashy either, once in around 20 hours I think. Similar specs to you.

Not really. Playing on expert and managing just fine. Only level 19 though.

Spoiler alert

I was around level 15. If you're having difficulty in the dungeon then definitely turn back because the boss is savage. He can turn your summoned pet against you and was able to 2-shot me with insane accuracy.

It means how many times you can use the weapon (sword strike, or fire arrow from a bow) before it runs out of magic and needs to be recharged. The less effective magic you use (slider to the left) the more charges you get.

When you've used your enchanted weapon for a while, it'll eventually run of out charges, and just do it's default damage without the magical effect. You can recharge your magic weapons using a soul gem, but it must be filled with a soul (gems that have "common" or "grand" etc in brackets to the right of the gem's name have a soul in them.)

I've never liked this system much.

Cheers.

Does anyone know what training a certain skill actually does? I just went to the trainer for Illusion spells at the college in winterhold and trained in illusion 1/5 for 260 gold but not sure what benefit that gave me?

Skills are just a required number for unlocking perks in their tree, they don't do anything other than that.

24 hours in now, only visited 3 cities so far and done about 4 of the main quests, not started any faction quests yet either. Been to Whiterun, Solitude and Winterhold. I couldn't stay in winterhold too long though as it was snowing and, is it just me, or does the game look far too washed out when it is snowing? It was practically black and white!

Also, my character is archery with dual wielding daggers, can anyone point me in the direction of a quest/vendor where i can get a decent dagger that i can use? (haven't put enough points in to smithing to make my own)

Has anyone had a stray dog randomly start following them? I've heard about the annoying dog but that's for a quest right? I was just out in the wilderness when he killed some wolves for me and started following.

If its the same as the one from morrowind and oblivion, its a reusable soul gem of the highest standard. Can trap anything in it and reuse it again after making an enchant or recharging a weapon ect.

That's what I thought, but I can't seem to fill it. I had a bow that filled a soul gem on kill, and I did absorb a few souls with it but only to regular soul gems. The azura's star has been empty since I've had it and I can't figure out how to fill it.

Do you have the light or dark version?

Dark can only be filled with human souls, light can't be filled with human souls.

Playing as a mage, I'm beginning to find that damage from Destruction spells does not scale well with level advancement.

Furthermore, I'm not convinced that the Alteration spells that boost armour rating actually work. Take the same amount of damage from physical hits whether I have Stoneskin cast or not.

Another observation is that magicka regeneration seems borked ; actually slows down during combat, and it completely stalls when you are casting a spell.

Still loving the actual game world however , so much to explore .... and every location is unique/handcrafted.
