Take a bow, mighty conservative Britain, the workhouses are back

I see this had descended into most GD threads...with personal b****ing going on between members :p Seriously gentlemen, sometimes I think you are worse than the 16-18 year old girls I study with at college!

Give me a decent debate about an interesting and controversial topic over someone moaning how their boyfriend is the worst thing ever and that all men are evil anyday.

Dont mention family members (especially dead ones) else you get abusive emails sent through the trust system calling you a ****!

Fully star out swear words.

I didn't mention any dead family members?

Haven't you got some emo make up to be playing with?

Least the 18 yearold girls have other things going for them.........

OOF.

To my disgust, most of the 16 to 18 year olds are quite promiscuous. I don't remember being like that when I was that age :( We need to get them into tescos and learn what wearing ugly clothes is about :p

This isn't so bad.

On the radio the other day a guy who was long term unemployed and struggling to get a job said when he managed to get one he was out of work so long he forgot what it was like!
If this gets people back into the practice and routine of working whilst they are being paid to 'look' and apply this is good practical use of their time.
Gives people experience, keeps them motivated and they can learn some new skills in sectors they didn't work before and maybe open the door to other job paths.

Are you not the one that wears daft hats with your mascara running down your face?

LOL Oh that, yes I do wear daft hats, but that make up was for Halloween, that's not how I normally look, silly :p

But we digress! I think there should be a poll whether people think this move is a good idea or a bad idea as we seem split at the moment  I think it is a good idea due to getting scroungers off their butts and stop them wasting taxes on beer and drugs, and honest people who want a job, gives them experience, even if it is just a little bit.

I bet the 'big corps' are loving this, free labour force funded by the government! What ever next...

It's been the same for years already, if you go into most big retail chains (Tesco's, B&Q etc) there are new faces practically every week/month as they rotate Jobseekers paid for by the tax payer.

I have a friend who did one at WHSmith once she was told right up until the last day that there would be a job in it for her only for them to make excuses and the following week one of her friends was on 'training' placement there.

All it is doing is giving business free labour instead of having to pay minimum wage, as for the unemployed they are getting caught in a loop of unemployment with the occasional few weeks of being exploited as free labour. It's not easy to dig yourself out when you've been unemployed long term and all these private training centres want to do is send you on free labour placements instead of helping you to find employment.

Yes.

Once all people get the same high standard of equality of opportunity then we can start calling them lazy scroungers (as they wasted a good chance).

As at the moment we are comparing apples & oranges - some people got breaks & chances, others didn't.

A child who get's beaten from the age of 5 & develops emotional problems, acts out at school, wastes his education will not achieve well.

It's not his fault.

If you put crap into a person from birth, the chances are that's what you will get out of them when they become an adult.

I don't believe it's logical to criticize the lack of work ethic of certain members of our society when not everybody had the same values instilled into them as children.

You want to apply that to just the UK or the whole world?

Good idea, once you get the chance to work in a place like Tesco you have your chance to show them how hard working you are. They will probably keep you on to get paid then.

Absolutely shameful!

An absolutely shameful scheme by the Tories and their sponsors. William Wilberforce must be spinning in his grave.

I have emailed Cameron, Clegg and my local MP and would urge anyone else who opposes this scheme to do the same and also write to the Customer Relations departments at Tesco, Poundland, Argos, Sainsbury's and any other identified big name business.

One can safely assume that these stores will be happy if 'customers' extend this idea of not bothering to pay for services to goods as well ;)

A close friend of mine done something similar, working in the Debenhams stock room for no increase on his JSA. Done it for 3 weeks and they offered him a position straight away. Ideal in my eyes?
