A ZZZAC Thread: £5 Of Enermax goodness

Ah I see ZZZAC is still around these forums I had no idea you survived your ban from previous comedy filled threads! :p

Anyway, nice to see you managed to find one working bargain from the many failed attempts in the past. ;)

If it works then great deal :), but if in a couple of months time it breaks and takes the rest of your system down with it then don't come crying to us :p

still doesn't know the difference between which and witch ;)

yeah yeah we have other major even epic fail going on and I'm finding fault with spelling :)

Im dyslexic i have trouble with spelling... big deal?

bassicly the logic is that in a couple of months time it will be fine awell, as this is what you said of my "bad quality"icute power supply, with the eneremax it is higher quality, built like a tank (dwarfs the icute by a long shot) has better cooling
stays cool for longer.ect and im not running it at 816watts 24/7 witch is what its rated for

And as for soldering. i don't see why that "fixed" comment was apropriate, explain to me how i cant do anything about it if a transistor or capacitor goes?

if its fine now its not going in 6 months, Hmmm no faults Enermax (very good brand) absolute tank compared to the icute (witch i have run a gtx 280 sli on to stress test the psu with furmark and p95... guess what its fine)
and this psu runs twice as cold as the icute as well... don't really think im going wrong here to be honest

Generally i dont just judge psu's by there branding, as someone recommends a single railed xfx psu, quite frankly ive seen over 20 in the past 6 months on ebay as faulty, this shows there obviously not very good quality, ive seen no enermax's till mine... and it worked :)

Lots more people buy XFX instead of Enermax = More faulty units.

Fair point im going to agree with you there, but it just contrasts as more people (i would imagen) buy a cosair and i haven't seen one faulty unit on ebay, ocz's are also fairly common and tagens are up there too

I dont think your soldering iron will help you if the PSU goes boom and it takes out another component. ._.

There is a hell of allota twoddle on here, my friends £2 power supply blew under a stress test with a gtx 280

it had over current protection and was an unbranded 600w, we've since tested his whole system, nothings wrong with it. ive had cheep unbranded go as well... whole system was fine... generally when a power supply goes its a almost always a high powered transistor just like in a car amp, with simple troubleshooting and a multimeter to test, you can find the bad transistor and replace it, costing a total of what £2 for a new transistor

ive stress tested this psu and soon will put a gtx 280 through it (more power hungry than the original card it was tested with and my 5830)

Generally this power supply is much better quality, allot cleaner built with higher quality components.ect has more safety features, and has none of the symptoms that the seller sold it with, and its very easy to falsely diagnose something!

Make sense? and in my situation would you be running an icute or a enermax galexy, even though he icute has shown no sings of weakness of the last 6 months and a gtx 280 sli stress test?

This is why people dislike you here ZZZAC. You think you know all there is to know and that everything can be fixed with your mad solder skillz...
When you buy the amount of broken rubbish that you do, you're bound to get the odd bit of luck. Maybe this is one of those cases, or maybe you have tested incorrectly and haven't put decent load through the unit.

Maybe I am reading it wrong but are you saying that a PSU blowing and taking out another component is "twoddle"?
If so: LOL!!! <massive rolleyes>

How long have you had your dual GTX280 test rig that you use to test all these PSUs?

was running on xtreme burn and large fft for stability testing (hits max power consumption pretty quickly and its not a dual gtx 280 test rig, basicly my friends power supply blew up and he wanted me to test the cards

And yes... i think i know everything bladdy blahhhh, clearly not, i know that a gigh percent of the time i can determine the problem without even troubleshooting the power supply
My friends blew, i tested it with a multimeter, from that i determined that a power transistor or 2 had blown (was part of one 12v rail) enough to throw 12v down to 2v, the only reason i didn't repair this power supply is that it was unbranded and poor quality (would blow up again)

does this mean i know everything? no... it means i know how to trouble shoot the most common problems in a power supply, take a lot of threads on hear "my power supply squeaks in gaming"
That is a classic example of either running to much power through it (capacitor cant keep charge) or a bad capacitor all together, and it doesn't take much to know that

As to say "you're bound to get some luck out of all the faulty stuff you buy" honestly since the x-fi this is the only faulty thing i have purchased, if you see my wanted thread most of that is for a friend... Thanks again for flaming something im quite happy with cost next to nothing and is of a decent quality

thats a bit rough emlyn!
hes a legend in here if not for the wrong reasons.....
zzzac i have a enermax galaxy 1000w watt thats 5 years old and never missed a beat.....i bought a second hand galaxy 850w of members market at the start of the year for my kids pc and its never missed a beat..... this replaced a ocz psu that blew up after a month

thanks for the heads up on the power supply, ive looked in side and was like
This is so big compared to my icute 850watt and any other ive seen, and full of components (pretty packed in with not much space left)
My friends just says 5rails is terrible but i figure if it was enermax wouldnt have brought 6 12v rails to there newer enermax revolution 1250watt would they, The galexy psu seem very very high quality

got any spare cables for this psu as i only have the non modular ones, willing to pay for them :)
