well it was fun guys, leaving this thread now hope you get ice cream soon! (not that soon as i will be peeded off i went for the nexus and lost an sd card slot :( )
 
Just done an OTA firmware check and a new firmware is showing as available. Not sure what version it is as my battery is too low to upgrade atm.
I currently have 2.3.3 KE7 so it is obviously newer than that. I am on Orange with an unmodified/unrooted SGS2 btw.

Edit: The update was 2.3.4 KI4. Anyone know if I should see anything new visually (different stock apps or new menus etc) on the phone?

KI4 has been out a while, I'm staying there until a fully functional ics port comes out, or will wait for the official.

As for what's new, I can't actually remember, just a few subtle differences, like when you increase the ring volume the sound it makes is different. A few tweaks with the browser, generally a bit smoother I found. Oooh video player now works in portrait mode

Thanks. I just noticed the font on everything seems "thicker" for lack of a better description. Not sure I like it, having had the other font for the last 5 months :(

Well going from Alpha 3 to Alpha 4 see's good improvements and that was in a space of 24hrs. More people will want ICS, so there will be more devs spending their time on this. So yes, I still think we'll have it soon :)

Will it not be easier this time as the Galaxy Nexus has all the same (and more) hardware features as the SGS2.

I think the main thing that doesn't work with all these 2.3 ROMS is the HDMI output (I guess because this is not part of 2.3 Open Source Code but is added by some manufacturers), but they can just use the code from the GN as that has HDMI output as well?

I suppose a better way to explain it would be the Nexus S came with 2.3 and that was very easy to get onto the generic GS due to similar hardware/drivers etc. So the same would maybe apply for getting 4.0 from a GN > GS2?
