Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Network and Sharing Center

Type that into your address bar from "Computer" or similar, where it says "Connections:" click that link, then click "details" and where it says gateway..

192.168.1.1 (for me) type that in your browser and do as above ^^

Often is admin/password or admin/admin for netgear routers.

Then just find the firewall settings and prohibited sites and remove it.

If you really hate him, when he's out boot his pc up into bios and find the cpu voltage and put it as high as you can and set the overclock high and fry it.. he'll never know youve even been on it.

Sounds like a complete idiot, stopping you from playing games/using windows and you're 23? Never mind the fact he's your step dad.

For about £200 a month or equiv where you are you could find a flat share somewhere that'd give you more freedom, there are all girls flatshares on the appropriate websites aswell if you're worried about staying with lads.

Not sure if you're working or not though..

Thank's for that ToejaMz0r! I will be trying some of this tonight, when every one is in bed!!

And I am at work at the moment, but its a temp job and the money is not yet regular, neither is the shifts! Once I start earning regularly, especially if they keep me on after this job, I will be looking to moving out in the new year. Of course, once I earn enough, my mums offered to buy me a house so she pays the mortgage and I pay her rent, but that's far away yet!

When I was younger, I was banned from the internet (dial up at the time) infact, I must have just turned 16.. so I setup the 300hour AOL trial and away I went, they never noticed that the phone was always engaged :)

I very much doubt the OS will show up on the router, sounds like he's using the default firmware... if he was using tomato or something then maybe but from the netgears I had, they didnt show your OS.

I cant believe you swap between OS's when he's around, I'd tell him to get knotted. If it ever came to that and I did lose something, he'd very quickly find his PC dead without trace! :)

Just buy a 3G dongle, problem solved. Then you've got your own personal laptop with its own personal internet connection that is entirely your business!

Can't see how this is being made such an issue.

Can't really afford a tenner a month on internet at the moment otherwise I would have gotten my own :( Plus, I am not sure about dongles, I have always heard negative things about them? I am in a poor internet area anyways

No worries, tbh you don't even need a 3G dongle.. depending on what phone you have, you can tether it. I know the new iPhone iOS5 allows tethering now and pretty much all android phones do.. your biggest problem there though is monthly/daily allowance unless you're on an unlimited tariff for internets

Generally with the dongles, if your phone signal/network is good then your dongle will be to.. trial and error and I think they'll refund you if your coverage sucks

PAYG Nokia I am afraid!

I'm guessing hes hosting some nasty site or hes downloading some nasty stuff and is trying to keep you all away from the internet.

Or hes not really very up on computers and doesn't want to look a muppet.

On the games having viruses and nasty stuff in them. Most companies had similar thoughts 20 years ago, and still do so if hes stuck in that timewarp I can understand why he thinks that way.

Dont get the win7 hatred though, again maybe he likes to be super techy or thinks he is and cannot lower himself (or you) to that nasty Windoze stuff.

Does he shop online etc?

Globul I think you need to find yourself a rich boyfriend pronto and move out ;)

Does your mother let him control all her life in the same way he controls your internet?

Surely if she can afford to buy you a house and rent it back to you she can help you out now and get you a dongle to make you happy. Mother and Daughter bonding and all that

Why does he not like Windows 7???

Don't tell me it dates back to the time when Microsoft milked IBM in the 80's.

If that's the reason why then he is an idiot.

We works for IBM, I am pretty sure its default to hate MS if you work there :p He's more mathematics smart than PC smart, I am starting to believe. He doesn't believe in downloading off the internet, I am not allowed to do it, so my boyfriend does it for me or I do it at my dads.

He does indeed shop online, mainly the rainforest, the bay and p lay

LOL I am the kinda person who goes for love over money :p

And naw, I complain about the internet and she tells me off, so I doubt she will buy me a dongle :(

Well it's their own fault (IBM).

Are your parents really that bothered about what OS you use.

My mums not that bothered, she uses MS now and she's the one who told me to just go on the wifi on Win7 while he's out if I have the password and things

It's 10 quid a month! I'm sure you can afford 3 less drinks a month at the pub if the internet issue is causing you such a big deal?

Infact if you use less data its probably even less than 10 quid a month. Do you have a half decent phone? You could probably just tether that using your existing service plan!

So if he's fine with your mum using windows, what will he do if he finds out you're using it?
