This guy needs his balls wiring up to a car battery. Seriously, it's an abusive trait to control like that.

Having said that, if that really is your connection speed, he probably feels impotent and frustrated the whole time :p

Short of messing with the router firmware or getting a 3G dongle (or trying something like OCShield), you don't have many options, except for making his life a living hell until he gives you what you want. So many women have mastered this power of being a massive pain the arse to men, you just need to search deep inside and find that part of you that can destroy him :p

That definitely deserved a HUGE sigh  :p

I can't live with my pops unfortunately :( I stated earlier he can't really afford it, and he lives in a 1 bed flat (I sleep on the sofa bed in the living room) so it would be awkward living permanently there!
Ah right, that's a nightmare!

Okay I don't know if this has been suggested, thought about offering a tenner each month towards the broadband, in exchange for unblocking traffic as you would then be contributing to the costs?

IMO dongles are pretty crap and you don't get a awful lot of gigs for download.

Why are people a dongle, vpn is cheaper and no stupid caps.

it sounds like the Commandant has something sucking up all the bandwidth on the connection so even if she got a VPN she'd still have bugger all speed.

Globul, to answer your question re. machines being identified on the router and their OS's.

He'd be able to see you were running Windows 7 if he was performing packet inspection, but from the sounds of it it's a consumer router and he's also not that technically competent. in that case, he's just looking at the MAC addresses of all the devices that have connected to the router. every internet-connection-device (so, Ethernet port, Wifi card) has its own unique MAC address, so he can't tell what OS you're running on your laptop but might notice if you plugged it in by Ethernet.

Whenever I'm out and about with the laptop I use the wireless tethering on my samsung galaxy and its generally depending on area quite fast. Decent enough for browsing anyway!

I'm on the three one plan, which is completely unlimited data. And it was only £25 a month including the phone and loads of minutes and texts!

Sounds like it could be an option here?

Globul's budget does not stretch to £25 a month or even £10 a month :(

Suppose I should read the whole thread first, I just kinda thought most peoples phone bills would be around that or more anyway!

however, if that includes a phone, she could sell that?

Christ what a complete **** situation; so she's studying fulltime, works, her mother is loaded and she still has to buy her own food.

I'd turn my back on them as soon as I was out on my own.

Oh, my mums a good person, she makes me buy my own food so I learn to be more independant, because I am an only child. She still buys bits and bobs for me, like cranberry juice for my health, 1 veggie meal a week and a pack of prawns every week! She spoils me too

My phone was less than £100 and its PAYG:o

Ditch your payg sim, get a giffgaff network sim, £10 month package has unlimited data, tether to your phone.

How much does your payg currently cost?

It sounds like she's a bit stingy :(

she makes me buy my own food so I learn to be more independant, because I am an only child.
Actually, at 23 you're quite the adult. you certainly seem to be pretty mature.
That said, forcing you to basically put yourself into poverty just to "Teach you to be independent" seems both irresponsible and cruel. It may be teaching you about being frugal and self-sustaining, but it's hardly helping your mental state?

That doesn't sound like you're being spoilt :(

She buys me clothes and things, she spent over £100 in London on me the other week, I think if my step dad wasn't there and if I didn't enjoy buying my own food so much, she'd still buy my food too. Trust me, my mums brilliant, and I appreciate her to the max
