Don't forget that it is in the interest of HD makers to create hysteria and panic.
If I were in charge of Seagate, I too, would be telling the press that HD production is going to be low for many years. This also helps Seagate justify their higher wholesale pricing.
Be patient guys...prices will come down in a few months, once the panic buyers have all dried up.
Well said. I remember reading that worldwide production of drives will only be down something like 30%, the price is artificially high at the moment due to speculators, the true demand/supply price will be far more easily stomached.


Unfortunately the supplier would only refund £36 of the original price and would not issue a replacement, so in the current HDD climate I've got away lightly with the £73. I went with the 1TB WD Caviar Black in the end as they have the best performance over Green and Blue and also have a 5 year warranty, whereas the Green and Blue have less performance and a 3 year warranty. I've had WD's before and their warranty service is most excellent.
