Google Music. True iTunes competitor?

Zune might not have the marketplace yet, but they are very much compittors. Zune offers pretty much an identical service, in fact a slightly better service with a monthly subscription for unlimited streaming.

Where android doesn't come close. Wow music, loads of mp3 websites and streaming service. They are well behind on the media front. Which for me is a massive issue for a MEDIA device. This won't break anything with iTunes, not in it's current form. When/if they add film&tv maybe. But at the moment people can and already do get their music from other sites. Amazon is also much further ahead in the states.

When and if. When I got the tablet people were saying go android they'll have their own version of iTunes imminently, half a year later. They still have pretty much nothing. Certainly useless for a media device, unless you download illegally or rip your own films.

Its taken Itunes 10years to get to where it is at now, I'm not saying Google have a better service presently but give it another year or two and they will be at the forefront.
Dont forget Google owns Youtube and all it offers ;)

It offers YouTube to everyone. In under 12 months maybe as little as 7 it'll have w8 to contend with. Microsoft has managed it with out the user base. Google really should have had an iTunes equivalent by now.

The reason it doesn't have an iTunes is because they want everything on the web. This is in quite honestly everything they do from google docs to the fact that there's no sync program to Android.

Not the issue. iTunes is two things the software and the store, I am talking about the store side. Google haven't got anything close to the store side of things.

Android tablets & phones don't need iTunes.
The ecosystem they have at the moment pushes what Google is, cloud based, not relying on an individual PC.
It'll always be like that as there's little need for Google to provide otherwise.

I for one like it like that.

The only flaw in it is probably what your getting at, putting your own media on it easily, but with Google Music and the upload manager facilitating that need, job done.

Grrr why do people keep saying that.
iTunes is two things a shop and software. Why do android users miss this point.
No they don't need the software, they absolutely do need th shop and it is the shop that we are talking about.

Cloud is not the be all of end all. Seeing as its a mobile device and there are plenty of black spots and plenty of buildings that shield from signals. Take a lot of hotels you can't get 3G at and their wifi is like £20 for 7 days. So you need copies in the device.

The market has movies, which I believe you can download and watch within 30 days (it's rental only afaik), no TV yet though.
