Battlefield 3 thread - Server details in opening post -

The only things that can do 50% damage to a tank in 1 hit are C4, AT mines, a TOW missile/tank cannon to the rear of the tank. Even jet & helicopter missiles to the rear only do 40% damage.

conquest is the only real way of the BF...rush is utter guff as with BC2

one RPG to the back of the tanks takes 50%ish if youhit the right place. Ive disabled tanks with one RPG if you can get them from underneath the back ie.on a hill or something.
 
Quick Q. A friend has an Athlon64 x2 5600 and a 8800GTX, he's thinking about buying a new graphics card to play this. Will the 5600 be ok at stock (2.9 iirc) or will there be a major bottleneck if he bought, say a 560GTX Ti

Not even that needed. One rpg to the back disables and a 2nd kills.

It takes 5 from the front and 3 from the sides though.

Its pants it takes 3 javelins though unless you hit from directly above. Better to do 2 rpg's to the rear than mess around with javelins and the lock on time makes them pretty useless IMO.

AMD better for slower computers.
 
There is nothing worse than spawning and then getting killed within 2 seconds. Happens most in the Alleyway on Grand Bizarre.

Doing the base jump on Damavand Peak in Rush mode is awesome. Whoever came up with that needs an e-medal.

Just got my new computer up and running and downloading BF3 as we speak! Just wondered, without searching throughout the whole thread - what seems to be people's preferences in Mumble Servers (which is move active) and which servers will I see some Overclocker's guys on?

Also, if anyone wants to add me for some games, no doubt I'll be on till the late hours, then please do add me! :)
 
Rush on bc2 was great, preferred it to conquest. On bf3 though conquest is much better than rush. I find rush a bit pointless as its so hard to take out any of the mcoms.
 
I'd check the first post for decent servers to play on, My favourite atm is Smogsys server because the majority of players on there are from here. There's a mumble server that some use although I don't know the details so you'll have to wait for someone else to post them.

I don't totally agree that BF3 rush is pointless, although some maps are better for it than others. Rush requires better team play, at least better squad play, to do really well in BF3. If you find yourself against a team which has two or even just one well co-ordinated squads you'll struggle to get even one set of objectives when you're attacking and they'll steam-roller you when you're defending.

I'm loving BF3 in all modes so far, but preferring certain maps for certain play modes. Operation Metro is awesome fun as a rush map, and CAN be awesome fun as a 64-player conquest map although in that mode it's mayhem. Caspian Border, by comparison makes an excellent 64-player conquest map but isn't so great as a Rush map. Grand Bazaar is brilliant in both modes.
 
I like both modes.... prefer rush though as it's something to aim for whereas conquest seems to harder to hold all bases....
 
Honestly, I don't have a problem with it and it's nowhere near the level you make it out to be.

Yes it is, find yourself a flat piece of terrain and keep the Tank barrel at the level its at when you get into the Tank which is the dead ahead position, it goes a short distance then slaps into the ground. Its nowhere near the distance you would expect a Tank shell to start trying to burrow an extension to the Channel Tunnel.

Do you want it so it acts like a rail gun so there's no skill at all? I like it how it is.

Hardly, but the fact is the drop on the shells is extravagantly stupid, it reminds me of how the sniper rifles were in this during the alpha test, the round dropped at an alarming rate to say the least.

BF games have always been hit or miss with tanks whether it be round drop or the fact that untill BC2 tanks used to take damage from just rolling along the terrain. The best example of tanks imo is in desert combat, you still had to aim upwards for ranged shots but medium range played out more how you would expect.

If you read the procedures they used to test:
Damage against armor values are for full runs; they measure all the rockets/bullets/whatever hitting the tank until overheating. They are maximum values; not single hit values.
