Hard Drive Pricing going up at an alarming rate!!!!

These Samsung 1TB's are terrible, I've read quite a few reports of F3's dying and had one die myself a couple of weeks ago, and today I had another one clicking on me although touch wood it's still going!

I could really do with a couple of 2TB drive and maybe another 1TB but I'm trying my best to hold out until prices become reasonable.

Just managed to find out my wife (girlfriend then) bought me these from S*A* on december 15th 2009 and according to samsung website they are responsible as the drives originate? From UAE so hope to get them RMA,d

I would remove that link as they are a competitor, I've used them before and never had a problem and that's obviously a pricing error!

Good luck mate.

My problem is I entered the code on Samsungs site and I'm told these are basicly grey imports and I've bought a few of these from various places and are probably just over a year old.

Makes me angry though as I'm sure these drives were all advertised as having 3 years warranty.

Am I right in thinking even if I can sort out where I bought my drives from they'll only cover them for 12 months because they're grey imports?

If the retailer advertised them as having a 3 year warranty then the retailer will have to honour it.

Ouch!! Just noticed these insane price hikes? What the ****?
Last 2TB I bought was $99 (western digital), just looked at the price for the exact same item and is now $209!!!
What's the reasoning behind this?

WATER is the cause, all the flooding in Thailand has seriously interupted production BUT there is more going on I think

Wow, would not of put it down to that! Are they going to be coming down anytime soon? Or let me guess, manufacturers will now just keep this new inflated price?

No one knows for sure. Some people say end of 2012 or in 2013. Some people are saying around Spring 2012

I've just had to order up SSDs for our older PCs instead of normal mechanical SATA drives as I can get them cheaper (they only need about 30Gb of space anyway).

Alarmed to find my Hybrid drive on sale now for £270, I paid £67 for it in August at the same retailer (not OCUK)

This is the best purchase justification I have had for the 1TB drive I didn't actually need before ;-) (Ordered before the floods happened at great expense anyway).

There are plenty of hard drives being listed for silly prices on ebay, but none of them are selling. Just do a 'completed listings only' search and you'll see that 2Tb drives are still rarely selling for over £100 - the vast majority listed above that are completing unsold.

It just goes to show that most people just aren't prepared to pay those prices and are willing to wait.

Also, the last time I checked, some retailers are selling brand new 2TB HDs, for less than £100.

At present, £40/TB is a fair price.

I've just ordered two of these - 2TB Buffalo DriveStation (HD-LB2.0TU2-UK) for £76.93 each. The shop was showing 101 in stock, fingers crossed it's legit!

Obviously I'm going to take the the drives out but this is the cheapest I've seen them.

I've completely stopped selling PC's and advised all my customers to wait till after the new year. I've cancelled 9 new orders and advised that if they must buy a PC, go for an HP where the price pretty much is the same.

Only two customers have complained stating that they wanted us to build them, but I explained that as I am an honest trader, I am giving them best advice as their systems will last until the prices stabilise.

I've seem all this cobblers before with memory prices etc and am prepared to wait. If the industry continues for months then I will recommend only SSD's on my builds or suggest they shop elsewhere. In all previous similar market collapses with IT for various products, I have see the supply chain continue on with the 'disaster' long after normal stocking prices have resumed.. I'm not going to be a part of that.
