***** The Official Galaxy Nexus Thread *****

If this has any substance this is turning into a nightmare, I'm desperate to get a new phone and sell my Desire, however there is no way I would purchase one of these until there is a total fix (not in the rubber bumper style of fix a la apple) and absolute clarity about robustness of such a fix, trouble is a proper fix for a hardware issue could take forever to implement, SG 2 may be an option for a stopgap phone for me.

This isn't comparable to the iPhone 4 situation, that was a slightly worse instance of a generic flaw that all devices have.

This is a device crippling problem when on a certain network mode that many, many people will find themselves connected to on a daily basis.

I think this issue has the potential to be a worse fault than the iPhone antenna thing, and tbh ALL Nexuses ( Nexi? ) have this fault, they should not be susceptible to RF like this, I would be hugely suspicious that they will attempt a software patch/workaround rather as a proper fix, that is of course dependent on this being a 100% hardware issue which tbh it looks like atm.

Is there an issue with 02?

Might hold off buying one till there is a fix...

Yep, O2 and Vodafone are the two main ones affected. Should be ok on Tmobile, Orange or Three who all use 1800Mhz frequency for 2G.

I was going to get this as my upgrade on O2 this week but no chance now. Just weighing up whether to pay off the last month of my O2 contact and jump to Three.

Just phoned O2 to ask about this issue(I know they're not directly responsible but I was thinking of cancelling my order) but they don't seem to know anything about it! You'd think they would have heard something. Are they lieing or has no one reported this to them?

All networks will plead ignorance until Samsung/google make an official statement.

Phones4U are slow had the confirmation email this morning at work at 10.30 saying my order has been processed, but its still not been shipped yet.

You might want to put it on hold for now, up to you though. They're also probably low on stock.

I'm not 100% sure it is a hardware fault - lets just see what google/samsung say.

It's doing it at bootloader level though, the guys on XDA are totally convinced it's a hardware fault and saying it's impossible for a software patch to fix it.

Obviously they aren't quite as 'trustworthy' as Samsung themselves, but as a whole they tend to know what they are talking about.

What do you think it could be?

I've done a lot of work with hardware / software (metering industry) and i'm pretty sure this is a hardware issue :(

It is feasible it could be patched with a software update but any fix in this way would only be masking the issue rather than correcting it.

I'm certainly not buying this phone until I have heard something from Samsung!

Tbh I have no idea - at first I thought interference from the NFC but then it happened in proximity of an old nokia so...

I'm as intrigued as everyone as to what the bizarre problem is.

It's simple really, the shielding is not adequate at all the required frequency ranges. The 2G radio is causing interference (on networks that use 900Mhz) with the volume circuitry causing the CPU to get a signal to change the volume without the button being pushed.

The only real way to fix this is to either improve the shielding or make the volume circuitry more resistent to interference.

Noooo, I was about to get one of these as well. Just as well the shop was closed early when I went on Sunday! Hopefully they will sort it out soon. Lack of news is worrying though!

Question, IF I somehow figure out how to get facebook to sync with this, will people pictures match up with their contact details in "People"?
