*****Official Star Wars: The Old Republic Thread*****

Level 31 Sith Sorcerer, and I'm loving the leveling process.

Normally I hate leveling in a beta, as I know it's all going to get wiped, but I just can't get enough of TOR.

One off the top of my head is the fact that the story for the character and class you choose is different to the other char/class stories. You actually get the feeling that your playing KOTOR within a MMO environment.

It's BIG on story(all voice acted), and obviously has Sci-Fi characters rather than the same old dwarves and trolls...

Alright, thanks Dave.

I've got the Beta this weekend so I'll try it out then and see if I like it. It will be nice to have something fresh and new to do.

Been playing the BETA for awhile now and starting to feel pretty burned out on it.

Great music score, main plot story, voice acting, but the game play mechanics are starting to bore me, really isn't that much depth to it, repeating the same skills as you go to the next mob. Also can't shake the whole single player mmo feeling, most of your time will be following your own plot line on your own and doing fetch/kill quests. Flash points are player dungeons that are repeatable or can be done solo (early ones at least) when high enough level.

Voice acting although good, does start to get tedious on quests were they just end up saying how bad there life is blah blah blah and only really worth following on the main plot. The content isn't that much replayable either, I'll describe it like Dragon Age, as soon as you leave your starter area for your class, your pretty much going through the same content again with just choosing different responses for the majority of the quests with only the main class plot to change things up.

The whole wait for enemy to spawn on a large timer and hope no one is around to take it is pretty awful as well, in the Beta it isn't so bad as there isn't as many around but i'd imagine it be a pain on release.

Bah anyway, Swtor will be pretty successful I think, it should sell buckets just because of the IP and offering of good story etc, but the true test for it will be a year or so after release after they played the game for awhile. For me it feels too much like a single player game with people running around doing the same thing, with grouping up with some people to do the odd quest or flash point. With it just being that and having to pay a monthly fee, I'm probably gonna wait to see how things turn out for it.

That just sums up all typical MMO's, dunno why you'd think SWTOR would be any different

I have a question...

What makes this MMO better than Rift, WoW or any other MMO that is out currently? From what I can tell, it's just another "clone" that is based on Star Wars.

This is far more story driven than any other MMO at the moment.

The winning formula is the consistency and polish that WoW has, but all of the various aspects need developing to keep it simple and functional, but with depth IF you want it. Rift has a lot of depth whether you want it or not, which isn't going to suit everyone. It also doesn't feel as polished as WoW in many places.

People shouldn't expect the WoW model to be abandoned very quickly, as it's effective and people like it.

Exactly. Questing and levelling tends to be fairly mundane, but you can spice it up a bit quite easily.

For example, when levelling, kill mobs in different ways. If you're on a rogue-type class, bleed up a few mobs instead of just nuking them down individually, things like that.

Well, it is a new mmo and you always hope for something new :p , sadly it isn't. Hopefully Guild Wars 2 will shake things up a bit.

Meh I don't really like the look of the combat in GW2, do however like most of the other stuff what I've seen or read about it

Im assuming you are in full beta.

Is there much to do at level cap then?

Like lots of high level flashpoints? Operations? Crafting stuff?

I understand there are 3 warzones so I think on release I will definitely be trying those.

It will be interesting to see a year after release, I do hope they commit to releasing new content steadily rather than milk it.

Lies, I'm in the general beta & we have trolls everywhere.

Started my download just now.

Is access being split amongst people so everyone gets the chance to play?

Pretty much sums up all games if you think about it. Never understand why people think one MMOs going to be massively different then the rest.

You telling me BF3 nothing like MW3? They not both basically running around shooting at people?
