Hard Drive Pricing going up at an alarming rate!!!!

Not sure, i just got an email advertising it as their deal of the day. Got an X in the name if that gives it away :)

EDIT: Just added a couple to my basket and it seems to be in stock.

All three of the related stores have them in stock, it seems (D, C & PCW). You can only buy 2 at a time so I just bought 2 (from D) for £121.99 including specified day delivery. Hopefully will get 1.51% cashback too.

According to WD's website, these contain WD Green drives, which is perfect for me as one'll be going in my file server and the other in my HTPC for recording TV, so low power usage is more important than raw reads and write speeds anyway.

is that one of the slim line ones or more the Box kind of larger ones?

I think I'd now want 1 TB for future use as back up for my new system when i get it.

Edit :Right I see that add now? have to have a wee think.........Cheers for pointing nothing out. ;)

I see now it needs power over that of just USB so think I'll hang on till the other fall back.
Funny a big chain is selling these at that price, what do they know we don't...Could be just old stock to clear.

WESTERN DIGITAL Elements External Hard Drive - 1.5TB, Black is the same price on that Rainforest site ;)

Just got an email from the place I ordered 2 x 2TB Hard Drives.

Good Afternoon Mark,

Thank you for placing your order with ***** *******.

Order ref: ************275
2 x HD-LB2.0TU2-UK

These items are on backorder, we do not have a current eta.

I have cancelled you order and refunded your credit card.

Please accept my apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused.

Kind regards

Joe

This despite stock indicator showing 101 drives in stock last night and most of the day :(

Do you think they clocked on and re-priced?

I actually need some hard drive space now as i'm building my son a new PC and I fear one of my drives is about to pop it's clogs but no way am I paying more than £40 per TB

100% correct

Cancelled your order and refunded your credit card?? Without even consulting you, without even trying to give you some BS about a slight delay.

Total rubbish, they will amend their site in a day or two at a higher price.

No-one gives a refund that quick without trying to keep the customer. Plus if thats a copy and paste from their email little Joe seriously needs a spell check before hitting send.

That's what I think.

They might've been inundated with orders. Thought, "what the hell is going on here". Then checked HD prices of identical models on other e-tailors and though, "we've under priced". Right, cancel the orders.

Like you said, no one gives up a customer so easily.

Remembering of course that large server arrays need to have HDD's changed at a alarming rate on a daily/weekly/monthly basis ! If you have non critical data it may be worth looking out for refurbed drives from these places... even with a much reduced warranty ... in the short term?

Like many others I think I will just wait them out

I'm just about to buy £50k worth of drives to stick in one of our Arrays, the vendor has been warning that prices are going to go up. Note we have about 200 hard disks and they don't need swapping out at an alarming rate.

Yeah it was a copy & paste, They had one of those live stock counters and they were clearly not out of stock at time of ordering.

Copy and pasted website just now.

Stock: 0 units (If Stock = 0 ' Request Availability ')
Leadtime: Usually next day (order before 4pm)

Last night and up till lunchtime today stock was showing "Stock: 101 units"

I just hope that most will hold back and not pay these over inflated prices!

It's quite a while since I left University. But while I was there we were forced to study some basic law.

The price quoted on the website is presumably classed as an offer to treat and can’t be binding.

If the transaction has gone far enough for them to need to refund you, then presumably there must have been some sort of tacit order acceptance which could be binding.

The vendor can try to get out of the contract by claiming that there was an error in the pricing that you must have been aware of. If it was a camera for £20 rather than £200 then this would probably hold up. If it’s a HDD that’s up for sale at the price it would have been sold for only a few weeks ago it’d be much harder to prove.

A couple of days ago I spotted a 2TB external USB desktop drive for £80, today I took the drive out and installed it in my PC.

I'm happy with that, should last me ages.

The act of refunding the money is sufficient to end the contract.

I've just had it confirmed that my two Samsung f3 1TB are faulty

So I wonder if they will replace them or refund me?

These where 66.69 each so I think they will refund thinking I will purchase
At more expensive price
