*****Official Star Wars: The Old Republic Thread*****

Apart from the obvious trolling, how are people enjoying the stress test?

Decided to skip on this test, don't want to play the game too much before release.

OTher then the queues which is to be expected to a degree - that actual server performance (in my experience) has been fine, pings <50ms - no crashes, no lag spikes - smoooooooth

People keep saying that about GW2 - but I don't see what it offers different to many other MMO's either?

Not trolling, just interested to know what it is about GW2 which is a game changer?

I'm guessing because of the whole "holy trinity" thing.

I absolutely cannot wait for gw2, nothing to do with if it's a game changer or not, but because I loved gw and love the world of Tyria.

D'oh! Halfway through Black Talon and a conversation bugged so we couldn't continue :( Tried it solo for a bit, until I ran into someone meant for a full group :o

Anyone playing on Kassai, lemme know :)

Do people not see the game being a bit repetitive? Soon as i hit lvl 6 i felt that i had seen every thing the game had to offer me.

lol was not bothering replying to them anymore anyway, kids play 5 levels and think they know the game, should know by now you cant tell kids anything, they always think they know better :D

Kids? Iv seen the game at high level from streams, and it's pretty much the same repetitive stuff all the way through. I'm glad i tried the beta to get my own point of view on the game though.

Performance isn't that great for me on an i5 @ 4.5 and a HD6970.

Seems to stutter at times, this is at 1080P and everything max.

As for the game.... well, it's a tough one. Perhaps I was expecting too much but it hasn't drawn me in like i'd hoped. Currently got a Consular to level 10.

i7 920 @ 4.2ghz
2x 1gb GTX 460
6gb DDR3
Installed on SSD driver.

All settings on max with forced 8x AA and i could run the game at 60 fps very stable.

Something wrong with your system.

SOrry but, do the graphics improve from 6-7 year old quality after level 10? Does the voice acting, which while nice to have, has terrible dialogue and story change? Does the awful shiny bright UI change, does the general generic and shiny feel of the world change after level 10?

The game isn't ONLY about what quests you are doing or what powers you are using.

You start off many other games, like Lotro ,with few powers and its a bit dull and that gets better later...... thats like almost every game.

The story in Lotro starts off strong, the quests make some sense, the graphics were awesome straight off(and still, on a fairly old game, MASSIVELY better than this tripe), animations, the general feel, the difficulty were all spot on with Lotro.

The simple "feel" of the game is like champions online, MMO dumbed down, made for kids, made uber easy, made childish and overly simple.

Every MMO has crap quests, you don't have to open with a terrible conversation and move right onto a quest chain.

Story might improve later, I somehow doubt it, very few MMO's I've ever played get harder at higher level's.

Just to address this and other points people are having then -

The graphics have a certain style to them, they have been designed this way as Bioware obviously felt this art style complemented the game. Obviously not everyone is going to like them but I think the suit the game nicely. I also think the WoW graphics suit the game fine as well. Changing them isn't important.

MMO's aren't all about having excellent stories, but Bioware have tried to take the storytelling beyond just reading a tiny bit of text and then doing the quest - and they have succeeded in doing this. Due to the MMO nature of it, it's fairly limited still.

The UI is entirely your opinion but it's functional and there isn't anything wrong with it at all (aside from the missing Target of Target).

Of course the feel of world changes entirely depending on the zone you're in and what you're doing. Coruscant feels massively different to the starting zone, just like in Skyrim, a city feels different to a village, which feels different to a mountain. It's frankly embarrassing that you're even commenting on this having only seen part of one zone and are level 5.

It's easy and made for kids? The whole point of an MMO is that you can push yourself to play at whatever level you like. In several years of raiding in some of the worlds best guilds on WoW, the people that call content easy are usually the ones that stick to doing easy things, and fail horribly at anything that requires the smallest amount of brain power. I'm going to assume this applies to you and the other people calling the game 'too easy' at level 5. Absolutely laughable.

This is a game aimed a huge market, just like WoW, YOU control the difficulty by what you do. If it was rock solid and every single battle was a nightmare, far too many people would be put off it. Surely you understand this? If you do lame and easy things, then you can't complain about the difficulty as it's entirely your fault.

Quite frankly, a lot of people in here have just done a few quests and decided it's rubbish, which is just stupid. You keep saying it's just like other MMO's? Well, it tries to differentiate a little bit while sticking to what is a winning formula. What do you want to see in it when it comes to questing, what would make them better? I've asked this already and nobody replied, because quite frankly none of you have a clue.

I'm not remotely close to being a Star Wars fan, I like it, but that's about it. This feels like a combination of WoW, KOTOR and Mass Effect, which is pretty much as good as it sounds. I'm not saying everyone has to like it, plenty of people won't, but at least make some remotely valid points that don't make you look foolish.

I am playing as an android smuggler. I was surprised to see that there are some dreadful graphical glitches relating to my charachters face in cut scenes. He has various cyborg "implants" on his face and they wobble all over the place in the cut scenes. Looks dreadful(and comical!) Anyone know if this is a known issue?

Aside from that I have got far enough to pass judgement (lvl 4). Don't really like the combat system though. Feels a bit of a throwback to old school rpg. I would like to have been able to point and shoot a la mass effect or fallout 3. I have played kotr, but it has been a while, I am guessing it uses a similar system. It leaves you feeling and bit detached from the action, and strips away the immersion.

I don't get that arguement though...

It's like moaning about a racing game because you race, or a FPS because your shooting things... ?

I guess a few of us are just burned out on this very standard format, racing games have better physics, improved damage, better AI, or just the *feel*, and I suppose that's what I'm not getting right now, the *feel*. It's very much like Rift, I loved rift for a short while, then it just became standard.

Maybe the problem's with us burned out folk, rather than the formulaic games themselves. There's just nowt pulling me back in, this is no criticism of the game itself just an observation.

Really!? You have got to level 4 and think its a good reflection of what the game has to offer?

You probably have around 4-6 skills, 2 of them probably being a buff.

You wouldn't have even hit serious grouping, instances, crafting and companions. To name a few.

Really does blow my mind at times how people are so quick to judge.

You can play WoW and lvl to say 10 or whatever and from a questing point of view you can see what the game is going to be like for the next 75 levels. Its the same crap with this game to.

lvl 4? haha

Anyone who's played a bounty hunter to a decent level have any suggestions for trees to focus on as Powertech? I'll obviously be wanting some out of the defence one but not sure which of the two DPS trees are more worthwhile.

I would ask on the TOR forums but that kinda question is usually met with.. try both. Not enough time in the weekend for that :)

How would you like the questing to be different?

Tbh i dont know, but something needs to be done for sure, something new and different. I think what Bioware are doing is playing it safe and EA want them to make as much money as possible with this game.

Hahaha you are being serious!!!!

Man, when you have played a mmo that has done it all and repeated that crap with expansions over and over again with questing. Then you will understand how i feel.

Since vanilla wow, levelling in mmo's has always been a big grind, it shouldn't feel like that at all.

I think some people need to calm down a bit with the drama :D , soon as anything negative is posted the same people keep jumping on them, let people post their opinions :p

Like a few others mentioned and like my post, Swtor is a good game but disappointing for people wanting something new and different. For me, simply having a good story, voice, etc wont be able to hold my attention when the game feels too single playerish with a monthly fee when games like Skyrim etc with plenty of story are out. The game play just feels mundane and you tend to strive for the next cut scene.

I also thought the companion system was very disappointing for a Bioware game and something they need to fix. You can activate 1 or 2 skills in a fight and it does it the rest itself, you can send him off to do materials etc but in the end just a mindless story drone. would have thought Bioware would have put a lot more into them with more skill selects in combat, it would spice things up a lot more and take some of the bore out of combat.

Good god ! company develops game to make money using a system that has proven itself over and over HOW VERY DARE THEY ! .....

People can moan and hate but end of the day. Companies are there to make games to make money. If they listened to all the hate they would not develop these sorts of games that make them the money in the first place to be able to work on bigger projects.

I'm sure the exact same comments were said about WoW when that first came out. As well WoW is just a rip of previous mmo titles and ideas. Look at Blizzard now freaking HUGE company.
