AMD Bulldozer FX-4 4100 Black Edition?

Basically my plan was to sell my MB/CPU (well use them the next time a friend/relative asks me to build them a computer) and just get a new board/CPU. Looking on-line im seeing about £150 for a i5 760 which is almost as much as a i5 2500k.
If you are looking at old gen CPU new, then you are doing it wrong, as they don't tend to fall in price (I mean look at those Core2 CPU prices :D)

You should be able to pick up a 2nd hand i5 750/i5 760 for may be around £100.

The amount i spent on my setup (excluding GPUs) is less than the cost of an intel CPU...

Plus intel can suck my balls...

quite the same here, my 1055T and motherboard cost less than a 2500K, probably not much more including RAM as well, so that is CPU, motherboard and RAM for similar sort of price to an Intel CPU. the 1055T at the speed its running at offers fantastic performance for the price I got it for, much better than any alternative in the price range. :)

I am building a rig for my friend on a very tight budget and no matter what I did I couldn't squeeze an i5 2500k into the setup unless I cheaped out on the GPU.

So I ended up getting him an ASRock 970 Extreme3 and Phenom 2 960T. The sum of these components cost 10 dollars less that just a 2500k....which allows him to get a 6950 2gb into his build.

Although the 2500K is a better CPU in every way, it's just not worth choosing CPU power over GPU power if you are a gamer on a budget.

Ditto - i've had to do a very similar build for a family member.

Agreed, and TBH, i got a remarkable amount of satisfaction on completeion of the build (i'll be surprised if you don;t feel the same after your build). OK, so it's not a SB killer but for the users uses he won't know any difference and it powers its way through all his games and apps.

He's one happy bunny - and he's had great bang-for-buck. He probably wonders why i spend so much time and money upgrading...

 faints.

4100

Just bought one with mobo+memory and few other things. This is my second day that I`m using whole set and can`t say single bad word for that cpu !! still need some configurations plus some benchmarks to be done... asap i will post the results. and btw i moved from 2core intel @2.5ghz ... and as my finances wasnt very good (350-400 pounds ) i think i got the best deal considering i bought this cpu, mobo, gpu, ram and case :)

Thats what i got from 3Dmark Vantage. as u can see it shows exactly what parts i have and i havent yet played with clocks on cpu and gpu. the only thing i done is just switched some options in catalyst soft. overal score was P10983. i hope that will clear anything for any future potential buyers but from my point i couldnt spend money in better way chosing pc parts :)

i actualy believed this is going to do better work. i know the launch of them wasnt perfect and so on and so on ... but as usual i think soft is going to improve in time to use full potential of that cpu and in MY opinion it has lots of it :)

You sound almost religious, no offense, factually it will hardly change its performance, its just a rubbish CPU and all other made in the last 2 years are faster.

Factual information - not my opinion.

Quite a few new registrants talking up Bulldozer just a lately. ;):p

A rough rule of thumb is that you need a Bulldozer with two extra cores to compete with the equivalent Phenom. ie. Phenom X4 = FX-6, FX-4 is probably closer to a Phenom X2 in most cases.

More optimised software will help Bulldozer. Visual Studio 2010 service pack 1 has better support for Bulldozer.

dont get me wrong. i`m not trying to say it is the best cpu ... bla bla bla... what i`m saying is for a brand new build for money i had that is ( in MY opinion ) the best if not closest to. and as i said previously i think future will be "kind" to this type of cpu. i cant say i had my daubts but one of my "Guru" told me this is going to be greate build ... past showed us that if new tech comes out not always it is great in eary days, and in my opinion this is one of those cases :) ( and no im not religious and im not a "Fan Boy" of amd ... :P )

Believing it's going to work better doesn't mean it's going to work better.
And it won't.
The Phenom II X4 is factually better, and would have been a better choice.
Or even a Q9550 on your 775 set up for price, as you can probably pick them up for like 100.

looks like smoe1 have to be always right ... whatever. for ure info my old mobo would not take better cpu than i had or if it would it still would not be a decent one ...

Even then, the Phenom II X4 and an AM3 board would have cost less, and net better performance, while still maintaining being on AMD if that's what you wanted.
You opened yourself up to this by bumping an older thread with your purchase.

please for crying out loud, learn to type in English. the spelling and grammar on this forum are getting shocking, especially with new members, like I said in another thread we are all computer enthusiasts and builders yet basic grammar is an issue, how does that work?

also, the dual-module 4*** series isn't a direct replacement for the quad-core K10.5 processors, like I keep saying it has more ground being compared to a dual-core rather than a quad-core since it isn't strictly speaking either of those things. the massive, cataclysmic problem is the manufacturers insist on using damaged 8*** silicon to make their 4*** series, rather than make a much smaller, dedicated 4*** series die, which would provide better yields and drive prices down and availability up. instead they insist on using the transistor over-weight 8*** series with its pointless amount of cache, its pointless four Hyper Transport connects and so forth.
