Cheeky bugger! ;)
Was far too pleased last night (and pretty much ruined).
However your improvement is better than mine, bit of mutual support as we destroy ourselves with the same goal.

tbh I'm actually happy I can run a distance again.. its been 10+ years since I did any sustained running! We're doing ossum :>

I'll offer my support too;

MAN UP, KEEP GOING.

but its cold :(

As said I've got my time down by a 1.5min but still 1min off the time that was mention in my interview.
From the guys who are already in the Army, or even better work in a recruiting section, worth giving them a call just to say I'm working on it and I want it, but dropping 2.5min in a month was too much.

Are you just waiting for dates to go on selection? Or is there still more of your application to work though? If you've already been given dates for selection, and you're not ready, tell them. It's better to put off selection rather than trying, failing, and hoping to get a second chance.

I have only been in the army since oct 2010, but from even my experience fitness is so easily dropped, especially if you end up on very long trade courses... Its so easy to fall into a "uni" style routine of getting smashed constantly and eating pizza everyday...

We have started being introduced to some sort of 3mile bergen run, 1.5mile run as a squad then a 1.5mile best effort in boots and with 18kg bergen.

My advice to anyone is to get an overall fitness nailed, i.e. run distance, do hill sprints, do circuits and do swimming... maybe try running with a bit of weight as well.

As opposed to focusing on a PFA. Anyone should be able to pass a PFA anytime of the day everyday

They wanted me lower before I started applying really. Well that's what the Lieutenant I spoke to said. Think I'll call them anyhows.

Well, seeing as the thread has been updated, I'll report in.

Still running and doing sit ups/pushups (can't afford the gym!). Running is sub 10 mins for the 1.5 mile and the push ups situps are increasing.

Still need to work on my stamina though, long distance I'm still not great.

Extra curricular wise, I've joined a variety of new things, gone to certain events, gone to a seminar hosted by the uni with a colonel chap who was very encouraging etc.

Things to work on is still my fitness, as well as the planex's. They are taking a back seat currently as it's nearly the end of term and I need to get my academic work sorted.

Speaking of which, I've moved my grades up already, and have a hit a high first in one piece of work which I've chuffed with.

So yeah, we'll see how it goes.

Sounds like its all going well dude. You needn't worry about the gym, you can get plenty fit for joining up doing what you're currently doing. The PFA(What you'll do on selection) is a test that is designed to be passed without the requirement of a gym. If you're running Sub 10 minutes for your 1.5 mile, it sounds like you're on the way and already doing well. How many press-ups and sit ups are you managing at the moment?

Well I've given the admin office a call so we'll see what happens from there. Another step on the road to my green lid.

Good to hear dude! :D.

Well Done.....:)

This thread always helps with my motivation.
It may only be the TA but for the 1st time in a very long time it's something I want to do as opposed to need.
I have a selection of pics of Marines as my desktop too!

Press ups and situps should not be a problem, but I've definitely got a problem with stamina. Eg I can do whats needed, but I'm lacking something which helps me keep going. Eg I'll be pretty wiped after running, exercising etc etc

Anything in particular you'd recommend to help build up a decent level of stamina for endurance?

Well Done.....:)

Cheers mate, you've been a real inspiration. :)

Distance! Going for longer will have to increase endurance.
Yes, Castiel (and others) does give some good inspiration. Its just a shame none of them are in Plym to run/train with me.
