Clarkson and Overreacting

He says things that are controversial just to get a rise, but this one was taken completely out of context. He gave 2 completely different opinions, then said that neither were his opinion, he just gave 2 views because it was the BBC and he was making a (bad) joke about it being unbiased. Of course, everyone takes the shooting remark out of context and the full countries media go mental.

they follow it up becuase of so many people complaining but if it was put to a poll, they'd soon realize no-one really gives a ****

I bet most of the people complaining either didn't see it, or aren't actually bothered themselves and are getting offended on behalf of other people.

In general, I dislike Clarkson and the way he would say pretty much anything if it gave him attention but I honestly can't see how a single person could not have figured out by now that his comments are generally not meant to be taken seriously?

For me, the most annoying thing about his comments is nothing to do with shooting people, it's the fact that he is talking about normal, everyday people who want to protect their financial future (whether rightly or wrongly) WHILE HE'S A FREAKING MULTIMILLIONAIRE (with a fair whack of his fortune coming from our BBC money).

But yeah, as others have said, he's a self-important tool and I'm surprised anyone takes him seriously.

I guess he should probably be taken outside in front of his family and shot.

LOL at Karen Jennings - 'It's insightment to hatred'.

Clarkson may be well off, but he lost a packet in the Lehman Brothers collapse. The recession hit him first. :-) Plus I have no problem with his kind of wealth... he made it entertaining a lot of people. He didn't get it, like the bankers, by making a %age on exotic bets backed by taxpayers.

Ignoring that though, the daft thing about this storm in a teacup is that the strike was a complete failure because hardly anybody outside the unions cares. Most of us were getting worse off long before the public service cuts began and the Clarkson thing is the only thing keeping this damp squib alive. Which is the reason why the unions have leaped at the open goal Clarkson's comments gave them.

Meanwhile, this week central banks did something they haven't done since just after Lehman Brothers went under... acted in unison. That unison is far, far scarier and more influential than anything Unison will ever be able to do.

As a left-leaning person I believe in unions. I believe in trying to do the right thing. But I also believe few people have really understood what's required to make up for 20+ years of living off money borrowed from tomorrow.

I find him entertaining, he said something funny. Not like he went out and started killing people. I can see the joke behind it, unfortunately other people cannot.

Then again, I am a uneducated fool which knows nothing.

Nail. Head!

You are correct, you'd think some of those that are striking, particularly the educated ones must realise that something has to give to try to rescue our economy, it's not as if they are even losing their pensions, they have to work a couple of years extra and pay a couple of quid more. I'd still rather be in their position than my own and many millions of others (working past 65 and crappy state pension).

I'm not going out striking! There was a teacher on news at 10 the other night, in his modest house with his kids and wife complaining he had to pay an extra £2 a week to his pension and he just couldn't afford to live, yeh, like an extra £2 would tip the balance, at least you're guaranteed a good pension when you retire at 55 you unrealistic nob! We've all had to take cuts and make sacrifices, you lot get your 3% pay rises guaranteed, we get nothing. Get your heads back out the sky and back to planet earth, welcome to the real world.

Total storm in a teacup. The media isn't picking up in public opinion but trying to form it with sensationalist reporting and quoting out of context - a rarity for them, I know. It's Sachs-gate all over again : "I haven't seen the piece in question but I'm appalled by what I've been told to be appalled about."

If you ACTUALLY WATCH IT it's clear Clarkson'a whole response to the topic wa satirical. And for those who haven't, here's what was said.

The One Show said:
Matt Baker [presenter]: Well Jeremy, schools, hospitals, airports, even driving tests, have all been affected. Do you think the strikes have been a good idea?

Jeremy Clarkson [guest]: I think they have been fantastic. Absolutely. London today has just been empty. Everybody stayed at home, you can whizz about, restaurants are empty.

Alex Jones [presenter]: The traffic, actually, has been very good today.

Jeremy Clarkson: Airports, people streaming through with no problems at all. And it's also like being back in the 70s. It makes me feel at home somehow.

Matt Baker: Do you know anyone who has been on strike today?

Jeremy Clarkson: Of course I don't, no. What, somebody public service? No, I don't. No, absolutely. But we have to balance this though, because this is the BBC.

Matt Baker: Yes, exactly.

Jeremy Clarkson: Frankly, I'd have them all shot. I would take them outside and execute them in front of their families. I mean, how dare they go on strike when they have these gilt-edged pensions that are going to be guaranteed while the rest of us have to work for a living?

Matt Baker: Well, on that note of balancing an opinion, of course those are Jeremy's views.

Alex Jones: Only Jeremy's views.

Jeremy Clarkson: They're not. I've just given two views for you.

Its even funny reading it back. :D

Another storm in a teacup that has been taken out of context from what he said. Someone should take Unison to court for wasting the public’s time.
