Clarkson and Overreacting

He should not have apologised.
He apologised for them being offended. Not for what he said.

On Educating Essex the deputy head got one of the pupils to do the same when she thought she wasn't in the wrong, "I'm sorry that you think that".

Unison went from calling for his arrest to accepting the "apology" and offering to arrange for him to spend a day on the job with a healthcare assistant. I can only assume the turnaround was owing to somebody actually watching the footage rather than just jumping on the bandwagon.

the fact remains he is an idiot on a ridiculous salary paid by the tax payer

The license fee isn't a tax and unlike most of the people striking he actually brings money in to his employer rather than merely spend it.

Anyway, the comment has been quoted out of context (as all quotes are) and when seen with the rest of the interview is so obviously a joke that anyone taking offence is just jumping on the bandwagon to publicise their own agenda. Shame on you.

why do people always assume the public sector is just a money pit, why because you sir are an idiot!

without the public sector this country wouldn't work!

The point was that Clarkson turns a profit for the BBC, the vast majority of the public sector doesn't. That's the point of it.

without the public sector the services would be run by the private sector. The country would continue to work, the public sector have a hugely inflated opinion of themselves and how important they are to the country

He must be loving it. Seriously. He knows he can't be sacked because Top Gear is second on the list after "taxpayers" for the BBCs sources of income :D

Anything that winds up the lefties is a good thing.

Clarkson just continiously acts like a spoilt child, he is not worth wasting the time to complain about.

It's funny that, claiming he acts like a spoilt child when those that are striking are the equivalent to a child throwing his toys out of the pram. "Waah waah, I'm not going to work until I get my pension money waah waah".

Have you ever read his books?

He is actually a very well educated, intelligent man.

This is him, being him and getting lots of publicity for it.

Lot's of bad publicity for it. He's working for the government as well but he's rich enough not to have to strike good for him.

It's not a money pit. What winds people up is them getting things like 23% of salary pensions. And when these are, unsurprisingly I might add, cut to a slightly more realistic value of around 12%... they kick off and start striking. It's ridiculous. 12% is still a ******* awesome rate of employer contribution. Private sectors folks generally have either no pension contribution at all from their employer, or if they do it is likely to be something between 2 to 6%.

PS: The 23% and 12% figures come from a friend of mind that works in public sector, and are directly relating to his own.

I'd not trust public order to a security firm personally and many people do not live in commercially viable areas. If the treasury is going to pay anyway I've no great concern whether it's run by a bloated public sector organisation or a greedy private sector company. Neither are really that bothered about the consumer.
