Its time for the BBC to sack Clarkson?

Not it wasn't. The only reason what JC said was offensive is because it was taken out of context.

Exactly...it all makes for a good headline and story but if you listen to how the comment came about then it made sense in context and was clearly a joke.

However I bet the majority of the people who complained have simply seen the story in the paper or on the net and decided to complain.

Holy taking things to a totally stupid level.

Must watch more tv to see how many people I can call on the BBC to be sacked for out of context quotes.

Anyone claiming to want him sacked must be a real bundle of laughs. Must remember when telling jokes to ensure that everyone will not be offended when I tell it.

I might complain about Frozen planet as it shows animals killing animals and I am offended my license fee is paying for this.

Hence why it was shown after 9pm.....

BS post

Maybe it's different on your telly, but on Virgin, Frozen Planet is repeated on Sunday afternoons, both on BBC 1 and BBC HD.

So at about 4.30 in the afternoon, my kids got to watch a wolf shred a baby bird, and then 2 massive great seals gouge huge bloody lumps out of each other.

In the aformentioned glorious HD.

You can see sinew and intestine and everything

Is that not more unsuitable than a flippant comment on a show that I find it hard to believe anyone under the age of 40 would even be vaguely interested in?

tbh, I'd be far more concerned about Eastenders, CSI, Jeremy Kyle, Criminal Minds, Two and a Half Men and the various other adult-oriented TV that is easily accessible all day. Not to mention the 24 hour news channels which love a good bit of bloodshed to go down with lunch.

Plus, the other day I caught my kids watching Boomerang, and a cat got hit in the face with a frying pan! I was so outraged I ran straight to the internet...

Except Top Gear is the only one which makes them hundreds of millions of dollars internationally...

In a purely profit definition, then you're probably right. But BBC News is bigger in scope, budget (I suspect) and audience. I love Top Gear, don't get me wrong but I think it's slightly disingenuous to suggest Top Gear is the 'biggest' brand.

No, of course not, he's urbane, witty and did nothing wrong unless you're unedumacated and can't work out satire.

People can say what they want...And I wouldn't care if he had said it on ITV

Fact is, this tool is employed by the BBC and I pay my license fee.

What do you fail to understand?

The BBC should not be a platform to Broadcast this crap...If they do then get funding through adverts not through my wallet.

The BBC's ethic is based on Reithian Values to Educate,Entertain and Inform.

Some fat lard arse on the sofa thinking of shocking things to say and how to offend people is Bad quality Broadcasting.

And I won't stand for it. If it's not for the people caring about what is Broadcast then we are doomed to Crap on TV.

I fund them, We fund them and they should sack this tool as he offers nothing to anything.

If I want to look at 3 ********* spouting crap on TV and licking each other all over in hidden places then I'll watch Top Gear.

The one show is family viewing so I fail to understand what you all don't get....

Can he tell the Aristocrats Joke pre water shed cause its a joke?

No

Sheesh its so easy to understand....

It is easy to understand your post, but difficult to understand your stance.

I don't care what you'll stand for. Clarkson is entertaining and what he said was fine. If you don't like it turn your telly off.

Some 7 year olds watching the show are just disregarded then?

Why should I? I pay my licence fee....I expect not to have to walk on Visual and auditory eggshells pre watershed?

The BBC is a Service afterall

The quality of some of the replies in this thread from the people supporting Clarkson...Merely supports my theory of the uneducated lapping him up.

Oh shut up.

It was clearly a joke by Clarkson, he also generates a lot of money for the BBC because Top Gear is a very popular show.

I do love how easyrider is just avoiding replying to some posts in this thread because he has no reply :D

They're not worthy of reply...

Very weak post's indeed..

Stuff like JC should get a rise...Jezzer is God...I love men...I mean JC

JC is awsome

I could go on but I'm bored of the banality of the posts.

You're wrong.

Saying this was offensive, is like saying all news should be banned because they may report a story with some content that isn't sugar coated and wrapped in cotton wool.

Again you miss the point:rolleyes:

The point is:

Jeremy Clarkson was asked to appear on The One Show with the Producers knowing full well what a character he is.
Script writers decided on the Presenters asking him about the strikes.
Clarkson then says it's a good idea but then says 'Hey up this is the BBC so we need another view' (or words to that effect) and gave a joke comment about executing strikers.
Easyrider decides to only read the second bit because he didn't actually see the show or else he would have heard Clarkson.
He wants Clarkson sacking even though it was the Producers and Writers fault and because Clarkson made a joke.

Am I right?

No

I watched the show I watch it every night...Watching it now posting this...

The question was planned but the response wasn't expected to be so offensive...

First he loved the strikes as he could drive around London quickly then talked about Impartiality and made a sick comment about strikers...

I can assure you that the answer that he gave was not passed over to producers before the show...Yes they expected a typical JC remark but not of
The Visceral quality.

No, I haven't. You are just incapable of understanding it. I mean, basic satire is a difficult thing to understand, right?

From what's been said, yes, the answer was "passed over" the producers. They gave it the all clear, because it was in no way, at all, even the slightest bit offensive.

Personally I found the remark funny, took it as it was meant and LOLd accordingly.

I think Clarkson should keep his job. :)

and made a sick comment about strikers...

He was just saying what many people in the country were thinking all day, in relation to the strikes.

How dare these people try to incite rioting and violence in our cities all because, shock horror, their pensions are being cut to a more realistic level in 2015 but will still be at least double what anyone gets in the private sector?

Their pickets had banners like "fair pensions for all". That's exactly what the government is trying to do. So why are they so flustered? Though I wouldn't yet describe them as "fair". Before it was like 2-6% of salary in private sector versus 24% of salary in public sector. In 2015 it will be 2-6% vs 12%'ish. Maybe in another 10 years the system will become totally fair where the public sector pensions are cut to around 6-7% of salary.

No, they just need to have it explained to them in a reasonable fashion.

My 8 year old knows that not everything is to be taken at face value. Could you not explain this?

Why should I? I pay my licence fee....I expect not to have to walk on Visual and auditory eggshells pre watershed?

Why should you get to pick and choose what I and myriad others get to watch? You're in a tiny, tiny minority in wanting action from this. The vast weight of opinion is against you, why should the BBC pander to the few?
