Could anyone share some light on these new Bulldozer AMD chips...

I was origionally going to buy a

AMD Phenom II X6 Six Core 1100T Black Edition 3.30GHz (Socket AM3)

But when i checked today i saw there was a new chip there that i didn't see like 2days ago..

AMD Bulldozer FX-6 Six Core 6100 Black Edition 3.30Ghz (Socket AM3+) Processor

I can see by reading there is a difference but what would you guy's go for and what are the major difference's? I'm going to be running the CPU on a Asus Crosshair V Formula AMD 990FX (Socket AM3+) DDR3 Motherboard so the mobo aint really effected.. If someone could shout back it would be awesome! Thinking of ordering the chip + mobo tonight as its on the week offer :D

the Phenom II X6 is probably the best of the two, probably not overly obvious in real-world but would go for the Phenom II at the moment, wouldn't recommend Bulldozer for this generation due to thermal and power draw problems.

would be willing to bet someone saying 'sell your AM3+ boards and get LGA1155 and Sandy Bridge' though without a doubt! :D

Read his post properly, he hasn't bought either yet :p
OP, scrap the AM3+, Go for Z68 + 2500k.
Also, the FX6 is supposed to replace the Thuban CPU.. The fact that you're being advised for the "replaced" part speaks volumes imo.

ha! just noticed the thinking of ordering chip and mobo! tonight, in that case makes sense to go for 2500K considering the motherboard isn't owned!

Edit: on another note, if not planning on clocking then the Crosshair is a bit of an overkill board as well? what are you planning on doing with said system?

To be honest guy's Im looking at into buying a system that is really going to rock and last me a good few years as that is what i have been doing. The one i have now has lasted me about 3-4 years and has ran a dream! but theres better out there now and i just want whats really good (best) and will play all the new games and what not. You guy's both mentioned 2500k and i have no idea what that is :P but im looking into buying a new pc that will play games at a good spec. Id take any help at the moment! but im shining towards the AMD side of things.. good choice?

Go for Intel, as a perspective new buyer you'd be crazy not to for a gaming build.
i5 2500k is just one of the best bang for buck CPU's at the moment and can be found for around 155, it's socket 1155.

yeah like said above, the 2500K is the best processor for the cash at the moment, depends how much your wanting to spend to be honest and what the system is for. one can get a second-hand six core Phenom II for ~£80 or so on some certain sites at the moment, for the money it is a great processor but for the best system, got to be the 2500K.

Sorry, AcEYY, but AMD is currently NOT a good choice at all! They've fallen so far behind in CPU territory it's just not funny anymore. Intel are ahead on performance and power consumption, and if you want a rig to last a few years, that's got to be the direction to go.

2500K OEM : ~£164

Pretty much all P67 or Z68 boards can get a good overclock out of these chips, don't feel to compelled to spend top dollar on one :)

Is this site called "Intel OcUK" or what?!

no, he's asking for advice and on pretty much any sensible measure he's getting the right advice.

And OP... It's shed some light :)

Having built a 890fx/AMD-1100T system, P67/2500k system, P67/2600k system, P67/2700k system and the same intel chips with Z68 motherbaords also. I would say that the best price for performance system is either a P67 or Z68 motherboard with a i5-2500k chip thats overclocked.

If your not biased by the manufacturer, the simply buy an intel i5-2500k chip and a decent mid range Z68 or P67 motherboard and overclock it to roughly 4.6ghz. Its simply the best all round bang for your buck you can get at the moment.

Regarding the motherboard its probably better to get a Z68 gen3 motherboard so that its more futureproof.

After some long thought i think it's time to make my mind up.. These are my two new gaming rigs im thinking of purchasing.. Im not a hard solid gamer but i do like my games and when i play them i just want them to run nice and smootly and have good FPS.

First rig AMD

Asus Crosshair V Formula AMD 990FX (Socket AM3+) DDR3 Motherboard - £191.99 INC VAT

AMD Phenom II X6 Six Core 1090T Black Edition 3.20GHz (Socket AM3) - £175.99 INC VAT

Gigabyte GeForce GTX 560Ti OC 1024MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics - £179.99 INC VAT

Second Rig InteL

Intel Core i5-2500 3.30GHz (Sandybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor - £167.99 INC VAT

Gigabyte Z68X-UD3P Intel Z68 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard £137.99 INC VAT

Gigabyte GeForce GTX 560Ti OC 1024MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics - £179.99 INC VAT

So far those are my main parts.. PSU and Memory i'm very unsure of as there are so many to choose from so ideas of both rigs would be great! I already have HD and Case and other's. I dont know which one to choose from as ive been a nice AMD fan over my time but i just want something that will be sweet! I dont know how to Overclock or what not so thats out the question about preformance (i know you can buy them pre clocked also) I just want a simple bang it all together bobs your uncle slap on teh headphone and rock and roll! :D Shine some light guy's you think these build's look ok? Need to up something or down grade something? Just shout at me :D im a n00b in this department now

why does everyone automatically pick the ASUS Crosshair? its not the only good AM3/+ board you know, there are plenty of great boards for lot less that will clock well, for anyone but a very very serious clocker the Crosshair is pointless, better off saving cash from the motherboard and getting better card. :)

The Asus Sabretooth is a great board for £129 currently on OC.

Also save another £50 and get a 1055t and overclock it to 4ghz.

With the £100 saved on the 2 items (with zero performance loss) spend the extra on a better gfx card or add an SSD etc.

also another point on the AMD system, why does everyone pick up black editions these days, when did overclockers get so lazy? had no problems overclocking my 1055T the old fashioned way on a board that isn't a Crosshair! :D

The 1055Ts are great, I know I have six machines here :) They don't all OC the same though, by a long shot. Got 2 95w 1055s - one hits 4GHz no problem (limited by space/cooling, no idea how much further it would go) the other won't break 3.5GHz due to a weak core 4, regardless of voltage. The 4 125w chips all do 3.8+GHz without breaking a sweat too

Defo if buying new you'd be a bit crazy to go AMD just at the moment, unless you have a special requirement for 6 real cores
