Another tram experience... 96 year old WW2 veteran beat by a black man, gets no jail time

Agreed, but people don't, because:

  • Media guttersnipes like the Daily Mail imprint fear upon us that everyone under 30 carries a knife.
  • A lack of modern community spirit means we are weaker individuals.
  • The law is viewed (whether rightly or wrongly) as protecting the criminal more than the victim.

It's interesting to note, though, that in this case at least some people did chase after the offender.

I agree, it is Bhavv that doesn't.

I find it pretty disturbing that the ones who did chase after the offender were children and not any of the adults that witnessed the assault.

Yea, why didnt the driver stop the tram and detain the attacker then? Surely thats his responsibility to do, not the responsibility of other passengers?

I do not know how the tram is set up, does the driver have a view or contact with the passengers or is it an enclosed cab?

On a bus the Driver would have limited scope for detaining someone without the help or at least the cooperation of the passengers........

Hey, watch it. Bhavv will be along in a minute to call you some names......

If more people took a stand, like you did then people would be less likely to attack others, or at least think about it twice.

haha tbh Bhavy has probably never thrown a punch in his entire life.

If more people acted as a community this country would still be decent, I bet in Croydon you have so many different ethnics, nobody cares about their fellow Croydonian

tbh if I was in London I wouldn't step into a fight not with all the blacks and knife crime. Shudder

I find the courts decision on the case to be more disturbing than the lack of help from the passengers really.

Why should people even bother doing anything about such attacks anymore when the attackers simply get to walk free with a warning? What a major waste of time and effort it would have been for more people to have gotten involved in this case.

This is more concerning :(

dont know if there is a thread about this but its scary if muslims can get away with such horrific attacks because there religion says they are not used to drinking. Religion shouldnt matter if the attack was any attack of this sort racial or not they should be severly punished and it scares me that anyone can get away with this.

While I agree that the courts decision is petty abysmal, and the Police also said as much themselves (which is unusual) I don't agree that it should excuse people for standing up to such people in their communities.

Probably told not to get involved, if you do you will not get any help from the company.

Violent black man that KO's a pensioner walks free from court, yet the woman spouting racial abuse the other week gets to spend Christmas behind bars..

What a ****ed up judicial system we have in this country

Shocking, makes you wonder this was 4 years ago, wonder how many other crimes like this go unpunished.

Im not sure how I got this without ever throwing a punch in my life:

However I do consider myself to be a pacifist, and wouldnt attack people unless it was a genuine case of life or death.

I had an offer to become a bouncer when I was 19, but I declined as I strongly disliked fighting or being physically aggressive towards anyone.

I've been fortunate enough never to have to witness anyone being attacked in real life.

That would not be the case for any driver in the company I have just left. They are told to call the police for any altercation on the Bus and if possible delay or detain the offender/s until they arrive, if that is not possible then to give as accurate a description as possible (CCTV is on the majority anyway) and if any driver was subsequently assaulted or detained by the police for actions they felt necessary in the protection of either himself or his passengers then they would have the full support and legal facilities of the company made available to them.

Ones I have seen are cowards and dont do anything. Been on night buses and do nothing, lads fighting and they just let them off and they are safe because have plastic guards all around them in their seat/cab.

Karate is a tin pot slef defence when it comes to street fights.

Anyone can be a bouncer, draggin out drunk people is easy. For some reason I pictured you as a Asian Raul Moat for a second :D

What does it matter that he was black? It doesn't.

It was this:

1) Man is tried for GBH, gets a suspended/probationary (first offence) sentence
2) Woman is racially abusive to people, gets remanded until Jan 3rd for her hearing, we don't know her history

Aye, night buses and buses in some of the more mental areas would have different criteria applied, simply because the company has a legal duty of care to it's staff, hence the cab shields.

That doesn't mean they should not report the assaults or arrange via radio to have Police meet them if possible.
