The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim announced

Sorry mate I'm new to Skyrim and I have just left everything to steam to decide.

Is this a mod or something?

I presume I am just playing with the last released official patch (I presume Steam auto updated).

EDIT - I just checked and I supposedly have 1.2.14.0 installed. Why the heck has steam not updated it? Steam is definitely set to automatically update games.

Kinda, it lets the game use 4Gb of RAM instead of just 2 and therefore makes it more stable and run smoother, there's going to be an official patch for this released next week supposedly. No idea about your Steam not updating automatically I'm afraid.

Skyrim in game is showing as 1.3.7.0 so I presume it is updated. Yet when I right click on the skyrim exe file it shows as 1.2

Can anyone confirm if THIS is the correct mod to install? And could installing the mod result in any complications for the game? Will I still be able to update Steam as normal afterwards?

Any idea why my Favorite an item and Rename an item functions do not work?

Have you remapped any default keys? Not sure if the latest patch fixes this, but in the menus the keys the game tells you to press for things like favourite and rename stay as the default ones even though you might change the keys. I don't know what rename is, but to favourite an item you press the 'Toggle 1st/3rd Person View' key.

Always wondered why I left Lydia in a forest somewhere.. Guess I did now! Never did use a companion apart from one of the twins from the companions. He sometimes even beat me to objective points

Moving down to high settings has got the fps up a bit. It's generally in the 40's now, sometimes as high as 60...sometimes as low as 30...

Will future patches sort this out?

An intel i7, 8gb ram, geforce 570m system should run Skyrim on the recommended settings smoothly, correct?

Poor optimisation in some areas mainly cities.

Even the most powerful of rigs can not get massive dips in fps in cities. If you look at GPU usage it is about 40% in cities.

Patches and driver updates should hopefully sort it out.

Wow, the "took an arrow to the knee" thing is really getting milked everywhere on the internet. It wasn't even funny to begin with imo :/

I used to like the "took an arrow in the knee meme", ... ... ... :p then I took an arrow in the knee.

It is amusing how widespread it has gotten. Guess it's testament to how many people have bought the game.

Nope! Not remapped from the 'F' key.

I did have the same problem with the drop function where 'R' wouldn't do anything, but as you suggested this was because I had remapped it.

Maybe try remapping it from 'F' and see if that works? Otherwise it seems to me that you'd want to fiddle with config files. There's a lot of chat on the thread on .ini files, so I'm sure someone will pipe up about what you should look for!

Finally remade my ini file so I can play again :)

I keep losing lydia aswell. Sometimes she is stuck on a rock, sometimes she is fighting some random bear/wolf/butterfly and other times she just stands there.
I always save with her in view and make sure she is around if I am doing something long winded. If she cannot go with me on certain quests I tell her to wait outside and she will be there regardless of how long I leaver her.

Her pathfinding AI sucks.

Oh I've accidentally killed her quite a few times aswell due to her running in between me and an enemy when I do a power strike.

There is a ressurect spell but I'm not sure what it is and whether she needs to be in view, I saw it on youtube.

At least she does as I say when I tell her to go to the kitchen, can you marry your companion? :p

She does get so annoying sometimes. I did think I had lost her last night. Couldn't find her anywhere! So eventually I used a console command to travel to her. She was where I had left her, I was just too blind to see her hiding behind a rock.

Her pathfinding AI sucks.
So so true. She also gets stuck on things. I had to Fuss Ruhh Darr her off of a ledge today to 'unstick' her.
