How to cancel TV Licence?

Spot on, just cancel the payment. If anyone ever turns up at your door asking to see proof that you dont have a tv or anything like that, just close the door. You dont have to prove anything.

Go one better write them a letter telling them that you have withdrawn the assumed right of access for them and any agent working on their behalf. Now they can't step on your property or look through your windows

So to legally watch any other live channel or indeed take out a SKY subscription, i'm obliged to fund/subscribe to the BBC. If the output is so worth it as i'm sure many will agree with, then go the subscription route. Pensioners can still get a free pass to access. Edit.. If that was part of the transition process.

Why limit all other broadcasts on the grounds that we must fund the BBC?

So I can just unplug my aerial, cancel my DD and play more xbox and just watch iplayer?

Saving myself £37/quarter?

Nice.

Yep, awesome isn't it :D, I've been telling everyone I know that doesn't watch live TV, you'd be surprised how many people think you need a license just for owning a TV.

When I rang the license helpline and told them I didn't need a license any more after a series of questions they did say that they may come around and check but nobody ever did, and also just unplugging your aerial isn't quite enough, I was told to remove the wire entirely which I did.

Also you can ask for a refund pack if you've been paying for a license for some time while not needing one.

Or you could save yourself a load of hassle and just let them in and prove that you don't watch live TV

I don't watch BBC much at all really.

Don't pay for a tv license if you don't watch BBC, ignore them, keep ignoring them. But then there is only soo much of this you can do, I'm sure if they got a warrant and the poice came they would all stand up in court helping get you convicted, unless you have a good brief. But that would probably be a landmark case and extremely unlikely.

Ill fight them to the high court, bring it on. Fascist brainwashing channel :D

I'm still waiting for this to escalate and i am going to counter sue them.

You can't cancel tv license, if you let them know you don't watch a tv by going to the notv part, you will have to supply your details. Supplying your details is setting up a contract and you are allowing them to have rights over you and your property. They will by their own rules have to periodically inspect and search your property for a television receiver.

Where does it state this?

LOL, just LOL.

They money doesn't just go to the bbc?

What do you think pays for your local transmitter?

Not sure I get that, I don't use their transmitters, I pay for Sky and use their satellite. I also spend a lot on BBC Blu-rays (e.g. all the nature boxsets).

Why do I need to pay for something I essentially don't use, if all the money is going to BBC or transmitters.

Burnsy I am surprised at you asking questions like this. :(

Initially I was :p

IIRC they take extra payments in the first 6 months to leave you paying 6 months in advance, so you may be entitled to a refund.

There are a number of ways to pay. I pay annually but there are options to pay monthly as well.

In regards to OP's question I would simply cancel the DD by logging into which ever bank you deal with and manually cancel it.

Then I would ring them up (phone number isn't hard to find) and tell them you no longer require a license and have cancelled the DD as a result.

Then I would google how to make beans on toast because I'm too incompetent to do the everyday things in life. :p
