I used to only buy hard drives to suit my needs e.g. if I had 30GB of music, I'd buy a 30GB hard drive, after buying a few small hard drives and filling them, I realised my mistake. This is how my storage looks now.

Internal
1TB HD (for the OS and games)
2TB HD (Media drive)

External
1TB portable (for holidays)
400GB desktop (old media drive, no longer used)
2TB NAS drive (to back everything up)

Although some of these drives aren't full they will be, hence why I got a PC case than can hold 6 hard drives.

So for future prospects I can get 6 x 3TB hard drives in my PC. Think I'll be ok with this case for a few years lol

Always get more than you think you need, currently on

C consists of 4x 500gb Raid 0 and a 30gb SSD cache drive nice plenty fast enough and 2TB storage

D consists of 2x 2TB drives Raid 1

Also have an external 2tb drive with a system image and all media backed up.

My NAS is 12TB. I'll go with the 3TB drive. If i ever go too a meet or alike i can then rip off everyone and stuff and @ £101.02 bargin! 19.79 per GB

Unless I've misunderstood what you're trying to say your maths is a bit off.

HDD manufacturers use the SI system of measurement where a TB is 10^12 bytes.

A 3TB drive converts to ~2,794GB (technically GiB, 2^30 bytes) as measured by Windows.

That works out at 36.16p/GB(GiB).

Even using the SI system it's still 33.67p/GB.

Math aint off, just never heard of this system for the GB calc before till now. Learnt something new. I just took the price and dived by 3000

Wasn't saying you were wrong. Just the mean to calculate it id never come across before but as i said ive learned something new like!

But just to clarify £101.02/3000 = 33.67p/GB not 19.79p/GB.

i dont remember where i heard it but there WERE some issues with the 3tb drives with firmware issues, i dont know if that been sorted now, but have a little browse before purchasing
