Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [9th - 12th December 2011]

We all say stuff that there is a possibility we could regret it later.

He maybe new around here so has to 'learn the ropes' so to speak. Everyone doesn't have to jump on everything he says.

I only retaliated after the **** he was throwing mine and One More Solo's way the other day.

And yes, we all might say things that we regret later but that's one hell of a turn around. One minute Wenger's worse than McClaren and the next he's gods gift again.

Starting to look like no one wants it.

Leeds should have capitalised again but didn't, season is panning out like last years once more.

Ah watch pomp away next sunday (its on the bbc and iv got my ticket!) and judge if we want to win it on that performance... :p

Waiting to see how you salvaged a point from today as some watford fans around home seemed slightly depressed they didn't win

We were woeful and they missed a pen to make it 2-0.

442 just doesn't work for us anymore, need 451 but we have injuries it's hard to play it especially when we have Becchio, McCormack and Keogh all fit.

Oh come on! There is saying something you might regret - But he went from slagging people off for not agreeing that Wenger should have been sacked, there and then.. To now thinking he's the greatest thing since sliced bread, and still completely disagreeing with anything anyone else says.

He seems desperate to get a rise out of people tbh so can't complain when he does. I don't think he's actually made a non-antagonistic post yet.

He's made a rod for his own back tbh

Saying he has to learn the ropes is like excusing him for coming in here and acting like a child (and that's a reflection on all of his posts over the last few days not just Baz's homework on him)

Cheers. Most of my posts are to wind some of you lot up :p but i can post some real **** though.

For instance, about Wenger. 3months later he has got the team playing the best they can. that is all i am asking for wenger and IMO for the last 6 trophyless years, he hasnt got the previous team playing to there potential and continuing to give faith with the likes of almunia, denilson and co from the past.

Look lads, we had Toure, Fabregas, Adabayor, nasri etc etc all in one team and did we win anyhing? no we didndt. should we have? probably yes. WHy diddnt we? Because Wenger made same mistakes. never improving the defence, never building on what we had with new experience signing etc etc.

i wanted wenger to go because he failed to address these issues. he has now addressed most of these issues so thats why i have changed my tune. simple as that.

If wenger can improve on mistakes and get the team playing the best they can they why cant i and other arsenal fans have a change of heart?

If we're not going to play Carroll alongside Suarez regularly then we've got to sign a striker to play alongside him in January. He/we are creating some great opportunities and getting into great positions but all too often there's nobody in the box, and when somebody is there, we're wasting the chances.

Was just thinking about this and if you did sign another striker how would you line up? From what I've seen of Liverpool Suarez looks like he prefers playing up their on his own (though he may just prefer it oppose to having to play with Carroll)

This would probably be better placed in the transfer thread but who would Liverpool fans want to come in and how long before you cut your losses with Carroll? I know he's still young but if you did sign another striker that's 35m presumably as third choice

Maybe that's his motivation? "Kenny, I'll show you how good I play on my own. Please don't play me with Carrol, please!".

Lol, nice try, but nothing has changed but the results. Your main source of excitement from what I can tell isn't anything to do with Wenger at all, it's staying in the Champions League whilst City and United haven't. I'm sure after a run of a few draws or losses Wenger will be clueless again and need showing the door.

I disagree about Suarez preferring to play up front on his own, in fact I think the opposite. Even in games where maybe Carroll hasn't played well, when Suarez has played alongside him Suarez has been found more space to play in because the CB's are being occupied by Carroll.

The problem has been picking a balanced midfield to play behind them. Do you play Downing left and Henderson right to compliment Carroll or do you play 2 of Maxi/Bellamy/Kuyt to compliment Suarez or some sort of half and half?

We've not been playing poorly, far from it, but we're struggling for goals and by playing Henderson and Downing wide, you're leaving out 2 potential goalscorers in Bellamy, Maxi or Kuyt but if you play 2 of those 3, you lose Carroll's goal threat (even if he can still play an important role for the team).

As for cutting our losses with Carroll. I don't think we will, not anytime soon anyway. Like you say, he's still young which I think a lot of people forget. And why is it that we're seemingly the only side that can't leave an expensive player on the bench? City, Utd and Chelsea all have expensive signings on their bench, yet the second we sign somebody for big money they have to play every game. It was the same when we signed Keane.

Carroll and Suarez are our only recognised strikers with Kuyt and Bellamy filling in (mainly as 2nd strikers) when needed. We need another striker and I see no reason why Carroll and whoever we may sign can't compete for a spot in the side.

Well City is City they can afford it, our 30m third choice striker is at an age where we'd be lucky to get half the fee back now whereas because of Carrolls age if he was relegated to being third choice you could still probably get 16-20m back for him even say in 2 years time and not many clubs would want that amount of talent only playing Carling Cup ties

All that being said apart from what the fans want is there any indication that Liverpool will be in the market for another striker in the near future?

Minor pet peeve.

When did it become 'EPL', does my nut in.

Its PL!

You don't see people calling La Liga "Spanish La Liga" so why does our league have to be called the 'English Premier League'

Because in the UK there is more than one PL, e.g. Scottish PL.

Not convinced myself, most of the clubs with that sort of money to spend will be wanting/needing European football and with the UEFA FFP rules coming in they will probably only spend £16-20m on genuine quality to avoid wasting some of their quota.

I would say Carroll could fetch £16-20m if he was sold today but if he was relegated to 3rd choice for 2 years that would tail off, I mean if you look at past transfers it is virtually unheard of for rejects who can't get in the team to go for that sort of cash in the UK, even Veron who was sold to a rival club cost under £16m.

I mean realistically who would pay £16-20m for Carroll, he wouldn't get in the MC/MU teams, maybe Arsenal if RvP didn't renew his contract and they got a new manager who favoured a more direct playing style and was prepared to spend over £15m, maybe Newcastle if they somehow came into some money or qualified for Europe, Chelsea outside chance I suppose with Anelka leaving and Drogba potentially moving on in a couple of years. I can't see any European teams wanting him for that sort of cash.

If Arry is still at Spurs in 2 years time he'd be in for him

He'll probably be England boss by then though

I really, really hope your wrong. If we are going to stick to an English manager, I think I'd rather Pearce be promoted.
